Third Person POV
Because Max did not want to spend money buying stuff that he already had anyway, except they had all been left behind in the condo unit that he shared with Tul, Max had to think of a way of getting them without coming face to face with Tul.
Debbie and Jan had already left the apartment by the time that Max had awakened.
Max went to the kitchen and made himself a hot cup of green tea. He glanced at the digital clock on one corner of the kitchen counter. It was half past nine. Debbie must be on her coffee break right now. Max decided to give Debbie a quick call.
"Hey, is everything okay?" Debbie asked by way of greeting Max.
"Yes, Debbie, thank you, really, for helping me in my time of need," Max said sincerely. "I just have one big favor to ask of you, if that's alright."
"Sure," Debbie replied, although Max noticed just the slightest hesitation.
"In my hurry to leave our condo unit, I brought nothing with me. That's why I had to stop by the mall first to buy a few clothes and toiletries before going to your apartment yesterday," Max began.
"Uh huh," Debbie said.
"Well, I was thinking instead of spending more money to buy stuff that I already have at my condo, I would like to get them except I don't want to come face to face with that jerk," said Max, hoping hard that Debbie would agree to be the one to fetch his stuff for him.
"Uh huh," Debbie said again, waiting for the inevitable favor that Max was going to ask from her.
"Do you think you could stop by for my stuff for me?" Max asked, making his voice sound plaintive. "Just the bare necessities."
Debbie suppressed a sigh before saying, "Text me your address."
"Thank you, Debbie, I will never forget your kindness, trust me," Max said in the most grateful tone he could muster.
Debbie wanted to say, 'you can repay me by going back to your husband' but she let the words stay unsaid.
It was half an hour before clocking out time when Debbie got a call from her cousin Jan.
"I'm at the mall, P." Jan informed Debbie. "I had to go to the uniforms store to buy myself an extra set of uniform for my internship in case there are days when I'm unable to launder the others. I only have three uniforms so far that I alternate with one another through the week."
"Uh huh," Debbie said, already anticipating what Jan was gonna ask her to do.
"The mall is on your way back home, P," said Jan. "Do you think ... "
Debbie did not let her cousin finish her sentence.
"Be at the entrance of the mall by quarter of five," Debbie said.
"I will never forget your kindness, P." Jan said.
"I think someone said the same thing to me earlier today," Debbie said. "I just can't remember who."
Oh shit, Debbie almost forgot that it was Max who had said that. She was supposed to stop by Max's condo unit to pick up his stuff before going home.
"We're not going straight to our apartment yet," Debbie informed Jan as soon as Jan settled in the front seat beside her.

"I don't mind," said Jan, "so where are we going then?"
"To Max's condo unit," Debbie replied.
"Why?" Jan tried to contain her curiosity.
"He asked me to pick up some of his stuff from there," said Debbie.
"Why can't he do it himself? He has a car," Jan was starting to wonder now.
"He doesn't want to come face to face with his husband," Debbie supplied the much wanted information.
"He is married???" Jan asked the obvious. "Did he tell you why he left his husband?"
"No, but I don't want to force any information out of him," Debbie replied.
Debbie followed the instructions from her google maps and soon she was parking her car in the basement parking lot.
"Help me carry his stuff to the car," Debbie told Jan who was already stepping out of the car.
With a nervous finger, Debbie pressed on the front buzzer of Max's condo unit.
Debbie held in her breath when Tul opened the door on the second buzz. She could see that Tul was a very good looking well built guy but his eyes were red and puffy. Debbie could tell that he had been crying, unless he was suffering from allergies because he kept on sniffling as well.
"Hi, I'm Debbie," said Debbie before Tul could say anything. "I'm Max's coworker. I'm the receptionist at his workplace. And this is Jan."
Debbie forgot to say that Jan was her cousin who lived with her. And Debbie also omitted the information that Max was living with her.
"What can I do for you?" Tul asked.
"I was requested by Max to pick up some of his stuff from here," Debbie said.
Tul was very tempted to ask where Max was staying but refrained from doing so.
Tul opened the door wider to let Debbie and Jan inside the unit. He showed them where the bedroom was and where Max kept his stuff.
Fortunately for Max, Debbie had good planning sense and had brought with her an empty box from her workplace. She placed in it some shirts and pants and underwear and pajamas.
While Debbie was doing that, Tul had gone to the bathroom and had taken Max's toothbrush and towels and handed them to Debbie. Debbie noticed that Tul's lower lip was quivering as he handed the stuff to her.
Debbie told herself once more that she would never ever ever allow herself to fall in love with anyone. No way, Jose. Falling in love was such a dumb thing to do.
As Tul closed the door after Debbie and Jan, he wondered who between the two was Max's new sweetheart.
