When we arrive in the city, it is on the brink of chaos. As we walk through the tunnels leading into the city you can feel the energy shift. "Do we trust each other?" Sylvie questions.
"We do and you can," Loki nods.
When we reach the end of the tunnel Loki and Sylvie look over to me and I nod. Sylvie let's out a soft sigh, "good. Because this is gonna suck."
As we run into the crowd, I can hear the guards ordering those who weren't lucky enough to make it on to the ark, "remain calm. We're now at capacity. Please return to your homes. Stand back!"
The crowd tries to push forward and chants, "let us on!"
Then the announcements from the ark only push them further into their riot, "five minutes until launch."
Loki looks over the crowd, having climbed on to a car someone had abandoned in the street, "they're gonna let all these people die."
The people begin to shout and yell, Sylvie tries her best to be heard over the shouting people, "we have to get on and make sure it takes off." Even though she's right next to me it is hard to hear her over the crowd.
"How?"
"You're Lokis," I shrug, "you'll find a way."
Sylvie grabs my hand before she starts moving across the crowd, "we go around."
"Okay," Loki replies before jumping off the car and running after us, quickly catching up to us and placing his arms around both of us.
It sounds like we got off the street just in time. Because as soon as we get into an alley we hear gunfire and screams. We emerge on a second street and can do very little other than looking around at the chaos erupting around us. We all decide on a direction to advance in, but before we can move we hear a loud, ear piercing crack. When we look up, we see the planet that is heading straight toward us break into hundreds of pieces. Which is the result of it hitting the moon's atmosphere, sending thousands of meteors raining down onto the surface. People begin to scream and Sylvie, who hadn't let go of my hand, takes off and I am left with no choice but to follow her. We run through the streets before we are thrown back, I didn't see what it was, only a bright light, but if I had to guess I'd say it was a meteor landing mere feet in front of us. I can hear muffled screams and announcements over the speakers. Everything distorted and blurry as I get up. As I get up I feel someone pulling me, before I stop against a wall, and the first voice I can hear clearly is Loki's, "are you okay?" I nod, before I feel Loki take his hands off of me, "good." Then I hear Loki a bit further away, "are you okay?"
"Yeah," I hear Sylvie reply before my vision completely comes back. When it does Sylvie places her hands on my cheeks, "are you alright?"
I nod, "yeah, yeah, I'm fine." I look around, finding that Loki had pulled us into a restaurant, just off the street.
We look around and try to determine the best course of attack before someone grabs Sylvie ripping her jacket off. She, of course, uses this to her advantage and while the man is holding the torn piece of fabric she pulls down on it, pulling him to the ground, where he'd be smart to stay. Soon two other guards come in the opposite door and Loki sends a green ball of energy their way. Another guard rushes in to assist his conrads, "hold it! Stop right there."
He pulls out his baton and swings at Loki, who dodges the swing and punches the man in the stomach. Before we all run out of the building and into the street, dodging people, meteors and debri. "Over there!" Sylvie shouts, running off counting on Loki and I to follow. We find a small place to hide out in with a small group of people who just want to ride out the meteor shower. I wish I could tell them this was the end of it, but it's just the beginning.
Soon we decided it's best to run again, knowing it's not going to be save anywhere, or at least not until we get in the ark and find a way to make sure it takes off. When we reach the corner of the street a meteor hits the building right above us and sends it crumbling down, "run!" I shout, pushing Loki and Sylvie away from the falling wreckage.
We run around a few corners and I realize that we aren't going to be able to avoid the falling tower. But Loki turns and shouts, "I've got it!" I'm unsure what he means by this, but when I turn around I see him throwing his arms down to his sides and the building stops, soon even rising back to it's original spot. Once we are safe we turn and start to run again, "we can still make it!"
By this point we have resorted to shoving and almost throwing people out of the way as we fight our way through, finally able to see the gates to the ark's loading area which is about 500 feet from the ship. But we are stopped in our tracks when we see a meteor rip through the ship. I gasp and try to hold back tears as I finally let my fatigue over take me and fall to my knees. Sylvie has walked off but Loki and I just stare at what was our only hope, panting.
