Kelly's POV:

At first, I told myself it wasn't a big deal.

A day in a room? Fine. I could handle that.

I tried to distract myself—walking from one side to the other, sitting, standing, staring out the window, pacing again. I counted steps. Counted seconds. Tried not to think about the fact that someone was probably right outside the door making sure I stayed exactly where I was.

Time moved slowly.

Painfully slowly.

The silence that had felt calm earlier now felt suffocating, pressing in on me until my thoughts got louder just to fill the space.

Why did he want me in here?

What was he doing?

By the time what felt like hours had passed, I was restless in a way I couldn't ignore anymore. My legs ached from pacing, my throat dry, my head spinning with the same questions looping over and over again.

"I can't do this," I muttered, dragging a hand down my face.

I needed air.

Movement.

Anything that wasn't these four walls closing in on me.

So I made a decision.

A stupid one, probably. But I didn't care anymore.

I walked to the door, hesitating only for a second before opening it slowly.

The hallway outside was quiet.

Empty.

No Derrick.

No Adam.

I stepped out anyway.

Each step felt louder than it should have, my senses heightened as I moved down the corridor, half-expecting someone to grab me and drag me back at any second.

But no one did.

The mansion felt different like this—darker somehow, even in daylight, the silence heavier, like something was happening just out of sight.

And then, I heard it.

A scream.

I froze.

It came again—raw, broken, filled with pain in a way that made my stomach drop instantly.

"What the hell—" I whispered, my feet already moving before my brain could catch up.

I followed the sound down the hallway, my pulse quickening with every step until I reached a door slightly ajar.

The noise was coming from inside, I shouldn't look. I knew I shouldn't.

But I did.

I pushed the door open just enough to see, and immediately wished I hadn't.

The room was cold, clinical in the worst way—dim lighting, concrete floors, and in the center—

A man.

Bound. Bruised. Barely conscious.

My breath caught in my throat as I took in the scene, my chest tightening with a sharp, overwhelming mix of shock and something dangerously close to fear.

And then I saw him, Cade.

He stood a few feet away, his posture relaxed, almost casual—but there was nothing casual about the way he was looking at the man in front of him.

There was a faint smirk on his face.

Not amused, not kind. Something darker, something that made my stomach twist.

"Still holding out?" Cade said, his voice calm, almost bored.

The man choked out something incoherent.

Cade tilted his head slightly, like he was considering him.

Then, without hesitation, Cade raised his gun.

And the shot echoed through the room, loud and final.
I gasped, I couldn't help it the sound slipped out before I could stop it, sharp and broken, my hand flying to my mouth as my entire body went rigid. My heart was racing so fast it hurt, my breath coming in short, uneven bursts as I stared at what I'd just seen.

He didn't even hesitate, he didn't flinch and he didn't even feel bad. He just ended a life, like it meant absolutely nothing.

The reality of it all crashed into me again, he wasn't just a man who took me, this was who he was. My stomach churned, my mind struggling to catch up, to process the image burned into it.

The blood, the silence after, the way he looked completely unaffected.

I took a small step back, with wide eyes and that was when his head snapped to the door, towards me.
Our eyes met, and for a second everything in his expression went still.

Then he moved, fast. Still in shock, I slowly took a couple more steps back, then my breathing started to get rushed and I turned around, trying to run realising he was coming straight to my direction.

"Kelly." He said my name low and sharp, but not angry. I couldn't speak and kept running away from him.

"God Damnit. Stop for fuck sake." I immediately stopped in my tracks when his tone changed to one of annoyance, still not turning around to face him.

I heard his footsteps get closer and closer until I could smell the strong, masculine scent of his cologne and I winced when I felt his back pressed against me. Fast and short breaths escaped my mouth, my chest rising and falling rapidly, too scared to move or speak.

He stroked the side of my head from behind and I shut my eyes so tight, fearing what he would do to me. His touch was so gentle, when gentle is the complete opposite of what I had just seen.

What is his game?

I felt him lower down to my ear, "I thought I told you to stay in your room, no?" he whispered, his breath sending shivers all throughout my body.

"I-You just.. just, what.." I can't even speak, all I can think about was what I had just witnessed and how much it terrified me.

"Turn around." He ordered, and I hesitantly turned my body to face him. He studied every inch of my face, seeing the tears and pure terror in my eyes. His gaze was as usual, unreadable.

"Y-you just.. shot him. You killed him." I whispered.

"I know." he replied, no remorse, no nothing.

He brought his hand up to my face and I flinched, he stopped for a second before continuing to wipe the single tear that had just fallen from my eye.

It confused me how gentle he always was with me.

"Kelly, I need you to understand that he was a very bad man and did very bad things, he deserved it." I just looked up at him, our eyes now connected. "None of that will ever be for you, capito?" He continued.

I assume the last word was Italian, although he rarely ever speaks Italian.

The softness of his voice surprisingly, is the only thing that could keep me grounded. Why is it i've just witnessed him do such a sinful thing and now he's making me feel so safe.

Part of me actually believed he would never hurt me.
