Cade didn't let go of my wrist until we were halfway back to my room. Not tight and not forceful.
I walked beside him in silence, my thoughts still tangled, my chest still tight from what I'd seen. The image wouldn't leave my head—the sound, the stillness after—and yet somehow, the thing grounding me wasn't distance from him.
It was him.
That should've terrified me more than anything else, instead, it confused me.
By the time we reached my door, Cade finally released me. The absence of his touch was immediate. He opened the door without a word and gestured for me to go inside.
I didn't move.
"Kelly," he said, his tone cooler now, sharper around the edges. "Inside."
I turned to face him fully, searching his expression. Whatever had been there before, when he'd looked at me outside that room, when he'd told me none of that would ever happen to me.. was gone.
"You're just going to lock me back in here?" I asked quietly.
"Yes." He replied with no hesitation, no softening.
The bluntness of it made something in my chest tighten.
"After that?" I pressed. "You think I can just sit in there like nothing happened?"
His jaw shifted slightly, like he was holding something back.
"That wasn't meant for you to see," he said. "If you'd have just listened, you wouldn't have been in the state that you were."
"You are such a hypocrite! You just killed someone and somehow i'm the problem." I'd had enough of his hot and cold and controlling behaviour. "You're just a psychopath." I continued.
His eyes darkened, not with anger but with something much colder. He wrapped his hands around my neck and shoved me into the wall. I winced when my back hit the coldness of it.
Despite him visibly looking like he wants to kill me, his hands weren't tight enough to choke me and the shove into the wall wasn't as hard as it could have been.
For some reason, him having me like this, under his grasp made the burning sensation in my stomach much stronger. I hated it because I knew he liked having people under his grasp, under his control.
"You think I didn't notice you watching? hm?"
My breath caught. "What." Is all I could say.
"I knew you were there, principéssa. You weren't meant to see it, but I let you."
"And you didn't look away." He continued.
"I-" I stopped, my throat suddenly dry. "I couldn't.."
"Or you didn't want to." My stomach flipped at his words.
"That's not-" He cut me off before I could finish.
"Most people would have run away in less then a second of seeing a man like that. Admit it, I scared you but that fear of me turned you on." He said, whispering his last sentence, not taking his eyes away from me.
The way he said it, so low and certain made my breath hitch slightly, There was something different about him right now in this moment. Everything he was saying sounded so controlled but like he was trying to hold it all back.
"You're shaking. I scare you." He said lowly.
I stared up at him, my lips parted and nodded my head slowly, not realising my body was trembling until he said it himself.
"You like it, don't you?" He whispered.
I nodded my head again, its like I was in a trance, like I had no control over myself. Once I realised what I was doing I quickly shook my head.
