Cade's POV:
I walked out on Kelly because I don't lose control. I never lose anything.
That's the simple version of it, the one that makes the most sense, the one that fits neatly into everything I've built, everything I am. But the truth is, it wasn't about control slipping completely, it was about the fact that for a moment there, I felt it shift, just enough to recognise it for what it was becoming, and I don't let things get to that point.
Kelly wasn't supposed to matter.
From the beginning, she was just leverage, a piece on the board that belonged to someone else, someone who made a mistake and needed to be reminded of it. I've dealt with situations like that more times than I can count, handled them cleanly, efficiently, without anything bleeding into it that didn't belong. Women, especially, have never complicated things for me. They come easy, predictable in the way they look at me, the way they talk, the way they position themselves like I'm something to earn or impress or keep.
They don't challenge me.
They don't question me.
They don't look me in the eye and push back like they've got something to prove. They worship the ground I walk on.
That's how it's always been, I fuck them, then never look at their faces again.
From the second Kelly stood in front of me, there was something different in the way she carried herself, even when she was out of her depth, even when she should have been more careful. She didn't shrink, didn't soften herself to make things easier, didn't fall into place like everyone else eventually does. She pushed, tested, spoke when she shouldn't have, and there was something about that which caught my attention faster than I expected.
It wasn't just defiance.
It was intelligence.
A sharp, quick mouth that didn't run on impulse alone but on instinct, like she understood more than she let on and refused to play the role she'd been dropped into. Most people in her position would've learned quickly to stay quiet, to keep their head down, to survive by staying out of the way and falling at my feet.
She did the opposite.
And I let her.
That was the first mistake.
Attraction has never been an issue for me. If I want something, I take it.
Simple.
I've never been more attracted to someone than I am with her. Her blue eyes, so big and sad, long brown hair, perfect olive skin, I could go on for days.. her legs, those fucking legs, they go on for miles. She could not even begin to understand the fucking power she has.
I don't do feelings or any of that soppy shit, when you're not fed love on a silver spoon, you learn to lick it off knives.
That moment between us wasn't supposed to happen the way it did. It was supposed to stay where it started, controlled, something I could walk away from without a second thought. And the second those pretty little words came out of her mouth without even realising, I walked away, knowing it meant something more then it should have.
'I want you so bad'
Just remembering how sexy she sounded is making my dick hard.
Fuck.
What the fuck is she doing to me.
The moment her mother failed to respond, failed to make a move, failed to show any sign of giving a damn about where her daughter was, Kelly lost her purpose here. I don't keep things that don't serve a function, and I don't hold onto distractions that don't benefit me.
