The cops presented their identification and were given permission to search. David inquired as to what was going on, and as soon as he received an answer, he reviewed recent calls in greater detail, realising what Remus had done and showing it to Lily. The cops were about to call it quits when one of them detected a wind coming from behind the drawer and pulled it out, finding Remus still bound and unconscious. She summoned the rest of the officers, who dragged him out and snapped a photo of his location. Before treating his wounds, a paramedic came up and took him downstairs. The other two kids were at the table, inquiring as to what had transpired when they noticed Remus. They were simply informed that David and Lily had done something wrong and would be arrested, whilst they would be placed in a different foster home. Remus finally moved and shifted while the paramedics attempted to recover him. When he first opened his eyes, he was terrified, but he was soon convinced that he was safe. He continued to express gratitude to everyone who had rescued and assisted him. They were able to calm him down, and he was able to tell them everything. Remus said that he didn't know and it was the truth when asked if he had any living relatives. After that, he informed them about 'Lawrence' (he managed to convince Betelgeuse to say his first name) An officer answered the door when it was suddenly knocked on.

"Can I help you?"

"Hello there. I've come to check how Remus is doing. What exactly is going on?" Remus couldn't believe his ears when he heard this voice. Betelgeuse stepped in and closely embraced Remus while sobbing, as if the thought had called him. He was quite convincing when he pretended he had no understanding what was going on. "Rem. Oh, why didn't you tell me this was going on, huh?"

"I'm really sorry, Lawrence! I'm sorry" the teen sobbed.

"It's all right!" Betelgeuse stated as he dried his and the teens tears and cradled Remus on his knee. "You could have told me!"

"I know, I know. I was really terrified!" Remus began to cry uncontrollably. Years of emotion had piled up within him, and he was now able to release it. He was exhausted from crying so much that he fell asleep to Betelgeuse's soothing humming and cuddle with forehead kisses. He slept soundly for half an hour, never shifting, or waking up. Betelgeuse was requested to wake him up momentarily after the half-hour since one of the officers was going to bring him some McDonald's.

"Rem? REM?"

"Hmm, what?"

"Uh, Remus. I'm going to go get some McDonald's for you. What are your preferences?"

"You don't have to!" Remus said, not used to compassion.

"I insist!" protested the officer, and Remus requested chicken nuggets and Pepsi. The food arrived in 10 minutes, and Remus gladly ate it, sharing some with Betelgeuse. After some meal, he felt and looked better, with more colour in his cheeks. He fell asleep snuggling up to Betelgeuse again, looking less like a corpse.

"What's next for him?"

"We were planning on relocating him to a new foster home because he has no touch with his parents."

"Is there no way to discover someone he knows?"

"I'm sorry, but no."

"Would it be possible for me to adopt him?" Betelgeuse inquired, hoping.

"I see no reason why not. Are you in a good financial position?"

"Yes!"

"Do you have sufficient time to look after him?"

"Yup!"

"Is it an excellent quality house?"

"Yeah!"
