It was 1 am. I was sweating like a pig. Everyone who was still at the party was beyond wasted or high already. And, I had yet to find Rebecca anywhere.
The guys and I arrived around 10 pm. We would have been here sooner but I had to wait for my mom to leave to work before I could sneak out and then I had to convince Grace to cover for me and watch our youngest sister while I was gone.
The party was in full swing and the house was beyond packed. I could barely move an inch without bumping into the sweaty body of a drunk stranger. It had been better earlier, but it had begun raining about an hour ago so the entire party has been forced to move inside.
I was starting to think Rebecca wasn't going to show or that I missed her when I spotted her.
She was wearing a tight little black dress. Her hands were in her hair as she swayed her body to the music and jumped around to the beat. Her eyes closed and a large smile on her face.
I couldn't look away. She was like a star in the night sky; shining bright and demanding to be seen. She was radiant.
"We should get out of here!" Daniel yelled to me over the music. I frowned. "What? Why?" I asked back turning to look at him. His normally short curly blonde hair lay straight sticking to his forehead.
We couldn't leave now. I only just found her.
"It's getting late and at this rate, it won't be long till someone calls the cops." He called back to me. I couldn't argue with that. I knew he was right.
Still, I turned to look over at Rebecca. Her eyes met mine. A large smile stretched across her face as she saw me.
My heart fluttered in my chest.
Daniel sighed as he saw what I was staring at.
"Just a bit longer?" I asked hopefully as I saw Rebecca whisper something to her friend, her eyes never leaving mine.
"You have until I find Michael and Levi," Daniel muttered as he patted me on the arm. "This might be your only chance so try not to mess it up," Daniel smirked at me as Rebecca made her way across the crowded room toward me.
All I could do was nod in confirmation that I had heard him. I didn't pay Daniel any mind as he walked away. My gaze stuck on the only person that mattered.
Rebecca didn't stop once she reached me. She simply grabbed my hand and began leading me behind her as she walked.
Rebecca was holding my hand and I couldn't breathe. Her fingers laced between mine and man were they soft.
Shit, what if she thought my hands were too rough? or worse too sweaty...
She didn't stop as she led me through the house and toward the back patio door before walking out. The backyard was empty as the rain poured outside.
Our backs against the house, the edge of the roof just barely covering over us.
We stood side by side. Her hand was still in mine as we watched the rainfall and tried to stay dry.
I turned to look at her. She didn't seem to notice as she looked around the empty yard.
"It's raining," I said finally after struggling to find something to say.
She let go of my hand and looked over at me. Her blue eyes were wide and her brow slightly raised as if to say 'really you don't say'.
I'm an idiot, of course, she could tell it was raining.
