FIVE MONTHS LATER

"Okay, okay so then he completely fumbled the pass," Levi explained excitedly before stopping to take a quick puff of the joint in his hand.

The guys and I were sitting behind the bleachers. Levi, Michael, and Daniel were busy sneaking in a quick smoke before classes started for the day as I silently kept watch.

"Yeah, we know. We watched the game together, Vi." I reminded him. He ignored me as he continued to describe yesterday's football game.

I glanced up to the sky.

It was beyond fucking cold and the grey sky made it look like it may begin raining or even snowing at any moment.

Before I could suggest we head inside or at least ditch Daniel suddenly got up and walked away. Levi and Michael didn't seem to notice as Daniel stopped at a bench across the field.

There was someone already sitting at the bench though as Daniel set his bag down next to them. Who was Daniel talking to?

"Dude, if looks could kill you'd so be dead." Michael laughed as he knocked his shoulder into mine snapping my attention away from across the field.

"What?" I asked in confusion. He didn't answer out loud instead he simply nodded his head toward the school steps.

As soon as I turned I knew exactly what he meant.

She was still looking this way. The top half of her body was covered by a bright blue puffer jacket and a matching hat topping her locks of brown hair.

A warm fuzzy feeling I hadn't felt in a long time formed in my chest.

Rebecca.

Even after all this time she still had an effect on me. It has been nearly six months since we had last spoken to each other. Five months since she had spared me a glance. Four months of acting like strangers. Three months since the new school year started. After two months of trying to move on. One month since realizing I might never be able to.

And not a single day without wondering where things had gone wrong.

Why was she looking now? She didn't look happy but she didn't exactly look upset either.

At this point, we were just staring at each other as if waiting to see which one of us would look away first.

Just when I thought she couldn't surprise me anymore she did. She slowly raised her hand and waved. I looked away.

Levi snorted as he watched the exchange.

"Shut up," I mumbled as I looked down at my hands and tried to force myself not to look back up.

"I didn't say anything." Levi teased. Before I could reply the warning bell rang.

I didn't move as the others got up and stretched as they got ready to head inside.

"You coming?" Michael asked softly. "You guys go ahead, I'll wait for Daniel," I mumbled.

Honestly, I just need a moment alone. I need to think.

Why would Rebecca wave at me?

The guys didn't wait for me as they walked towards the school. I sighed.

I looked across the field to see the bench empty.

The final bell rang. Shit, I was gonna be late to class again...
