"I can't believe you ditched us for a girl..." Michael grumbled, his voice croaky as if he were sick.
"Honestly," Daniel agreed as he took a drag of the cigarette in his hand.
We had gotten to school early for once and were waiting outside by the bleachers to kill time.
After the party on Friday, the weekend had been a blur. I managed to get home without my mom ever finding out I left the house, but the others weren't so lucky.
"I said I was sorry..." I tried to remind them. I had already apologized like five times but they weren't letting it go.
After I forgot them at the party, they couldn't find a ride back so they ended up walking for over an hour in the rain to Daniel's house and spending the night. Levi and Michael getting busted for sneaking out. Levi was getting the worst of it with his parents grounding him for the next month.
"Did you guys at least hook up?" Levi asked curiously as he let out a tired yawn.
I felt myself blush. "Well..No-"
My answer was interrupted by a snorting Levi. "I don't know why I asked." He started to laugh but stopped as Daniel whacked his arm.
"Hey, not all of us want to sleep with a girl the-" Daniel started.
"Or guy" Michael added with a sneeze.
"Right, not all of us want to sleep with a person the first time we have a conversation with them." Daniel pointed out as he finished his cigarette before dropping it to the ground and stepping on it.
"Spoken like a true virgin," Levi muttered with an eye roll.
This time Michael was the one to whack Levi's arm.
"Did you at least ask her out?" Levi asked this time as he rubbed his sore arm.
"No, not exactly..." I mumbled.
This got Daniel and Mikey's attention as they both stopped to look at me.
"But you kissed?" Daniel asked quickly.
"No-" I started but was cut off by Michael as he joined in with the questions.
"You got her number though right?" Michael asked.
"Ah... well.." I started and trailed off. The looks on their faces were enough to tell me they were all less than impressed.
"What the hell were you guys doing for two hours then?" Daniel shouted. A few of the people nearest to us in the parking lot turned to look over. They quickly looked away again as they were greeted by Levi giving them the finger.
"Well, we talked for a long while, and then I gave her a ride home." I finally answered.
"And that's it?" Michael asked waiting for me to say more.
"We agreed to be friends," I added hoping they would get it.
Rebecca agreeing to be my friend was a good sign, right?
Instead, they just all kind of looked at me as if I was growing a second head and they weren't sure what to do about it.
"Wow," Michael mumbled breaking the silence and the stares.
"What?" I asked looking at him. His curly blond hair still looked a bit damp which probably wasn't helping with his obviously impending cold.
"At this rate, Michael has a better shot at getting a girl to go out with him than you do," Daniel answered making me turn to him. His similarly blond curly hair is dry but frizzy. It was obvious why the two of them were sometimes mistaken as brothers.
