"When there is noise and crowds, there is trouble;  When everything is silent and perfect, There is just perfection and nothing to fill the air."

"Hey," Devon said as soon as he pulled up to my house. He was halfway out of the car when I rushed over. A large goofy smile on his face.

"Hi," I replied opening the passenger side door. Devon quickly jogged around the car to shut the door behind me.

I rolled my eyes. Was he seriously gonna try and open and close doors for me now? Sure, it was cute but also completely unnecessary.

He quickly got back into the driver's side. Once back in the car he turned to me and smiled again. His whole face lighted up like a Christmas tree.

"You look nice," he complimented. I looked away from him toward my sweatpants-covered legs. My hands self-consciously reached to play with my hair but found nothing as my hair was in a sloppy ponytail.

I had been in such a rush to get out of the house I hadn't even bothered to change or put on makeup.

"You don't have to lie," I muttered looking away from him as I sunk further into my seat. Why did I agree to this? I should have just gone to Emma's. Even if she wasn't home yet.

"I'm not lying," Devon promised as he focused on the road and started driving.

I glanced toward him. He was wearing what looked like dark-washed jeans, a green sweatshirt, and a black puffy vest.

He looked good in green.

The longer I looked at him the more ridiculous I started to feel.

"Where are we going?" I asked nervously. "Well, I figured we could get something to eat-" he started but I cut him off.

"I'm not hungry."

"Okay, do you want to go to the movi-"

"There's nothing I want to see," I said cutting him off again.

"Where do you want to go then?" He asked me back glancing at me quickly before pulling the car over to the side of the road.

"I don't know." I huffed. "Did I do something to make you-" he started but I cut him off again.

"Did you at least bring the apple pie?" I asked while avoiding looking at him. My head turned toward my window. Still, I could feel his gaze on the side of my face.

"No, I'm sorry. I didn't get a chance to. I hadn't expected you to want me to get you so soon." He apologized gently. His voice was soft.

I knew that I wasn't making any sense. I didn't even want any pie right now but it annoyed me how nice he was being.

"Whatever, I don't want to do this anymore so can you drive me to Emma's house? You remember the way right?" I asked glancing at him.

He didn't say anything right away. His eyes were sad. After a moment he sighed before turning off the car.

"First, tell me what's wrong." He said calmly but not backing down.

This is all wrong.

He should be getting angry but he's not. He's being too patient.

"Nothing besides the fact that you didn't bring me an apple pie." I snapped desperately.

I don't know what I was doing or why. But it was frustrating how calm he was.
