I open my eyes to see Thomas, yelling at a bird and waving it away from his bag. Oddly enough, everyone was able to fall asleep last night, despite the most recent events.

I watched as Thomas stood up and scanned the building, it was easier to see now that the sun shines above us, and I doubt that the infected will be much of a problem now.

"Are they gone?" Newt suddenly asks from next to me, and I didn't even hear him wake up. "Yeah," Thomas answers, "I think we're safe for now."

"We should get moving." He begins, grabbing his bag, "Let's pack it up." To my right, Aris stirs awake but still doesn't get up. "Aris, come on." I say while shaking his arm, and he gives me a harsh look before grabbing his bag and standing up. I deserved that harsh look though, I would've done the same if someone interrupted my sleep.

I glance over to Winston as Frypan helps him up. We had bandaged him last night once the infected ran away, and even though the blood and gore was still visible through the white wrapped around his stomach, I hoped that Winston was feeling better and that he was somehow immune to the Flare virus.

Once everyone was up and got a chance to move around, we started our journey. First off, Thomas led us up through the damaged building and onto a balcony, which revealed one of the most amazing and creepiest sights that I have ever seen.

In front of us, stood an entire city. But all of it was burnt down, there wasn't one spot in this city that wasn't covered in ash and burned away. It was terrifyingly beautiful.

We all walked for miles throughout the city, not stopping once and not speaking once. I believed that most of us were just in awe and still tired. Plus, we were focused on not getting killed.

"What the hell happened to this place?" Fry questions from in front of us, Newt blocked my view of him. "I don't know." Newt replies, "It doesn't look like anyone's been here in a long time."

"I hope the whole world's not like this." Aris suddenly speaks up. "Well," I begin, "I'm sure that some places around the world have replenished its natural state, or I hope." I then look back to Aris and give him a small smile, he returns the gesture, but then quickly turns away at the sight of something in front of me. I turn around and see Newt facing us with his brows furrowed and his lips tightly closed together.

"Woah, woah, hang on, stop." Thomas warns, and we all stop to turn around and face him. Thomas pauses for a moment, "Do you hear that?"

I open my senses and listen closely to my surroundings. Sand blowing in the wind, faint breathing from next to me, the distance sound similar to the wings of a helicopter-

"Get down! Everybody hide!" Thomas shouts, all of us realizing that WICKED must be close by. Newt's hand immediately finds mine and we all frantically rush under a large piece of concrete being held up by some rubble.

We watch as two helicopters, and something not even remotely close to one, flies above us and goes by without detecting anything. "They're never gonna stop looking for us. Are they?" Minho questions, and no one even gives him an answer.

After deciding that it was safe to move on. We traveled further into the city and eventually come out near a giant sand dune. We climb to the top of it and stop to seek out what we've been looking for this entire time, mountains.

"Those mountains, that's gotta be it." Thomas claims, using his finger to point them out as if they weren't so obviously in front of us. "That's where we're going."

"That's a long way off." Newt emphasized, and Thomas looks to him before returning his gaze back to the distant mountains. "Then we better get moving."

To my left, Winston suddenly moves and drops to the hot sand. "Winston! Hey, Winston!" Thomas yells, all of us immediately rushing to his side. Teresa gently turns him over and lays him down on his back, he sounded as if he was choking on something or couldn't breathe completely.
