sapphire had known she would eventually die prematurely, even without michael's game.
see, sapphire lived with her family. a mother, a father, an older sister, and a younger sister. her father worked three hours from home so he often stayed for a few days at a time. her mother was a successful woman in the fashion industry. she owned multiple boutiques all across the country and was currently expanding her business overseas. she often flew all over australia, rarely coming home to see her husband and daughters. sapphire's older sister, amethyst, was a straight a student at the best university possible. she was beautiful, gorgeous chocolate brown eyes, clear olive skin, perfect curves, and dyed purple hair to match her namesake. she was the object of all the boys. then there was sapphire's little sister, ruby. with bright red hair and green eyes, she was already being asked out in year seven. she was the star of the school and at home. it was usually just ruby and sapphire left at home besides the maids but that didn't mean ruby liked her older sister. she adored amethyst, but despised sapphire. she never knew why, it just happened.
sapphire would have eventually killed herself without australian roulette. it just simply gave the oppurtunity for an earlier death. some would call her weak. she had an amazing life. a good home, somewhat good looks, everyone thought she had it all. but she was quite the opposite. she was strong. strong enough to have gone as long as she had but no one can endure forever.
and now her wish, the one she had whispered to herself as she cried herself to sleep, was granted. she was lying on the cold cement ground, blood leaking from the hole in her skull. she was dead. the only thing she wanted. the wish she'd made as she blew out the candles on her birthday cake alone for the past five years.

ella screamed. she wasn't used to seeing so much blood. none of them were. sara was still crying, but they were silent streams now. calum picked up the gun that had skidded over to him and handed it back to michael along with his own. the others did the same.
"are you sure that we should be doing this?" luke questioned shakily. he was extra shaky from witnessing what had just happened. he had a few splatters of dark crimson blood on his white shirt. he looked over at sapphire again. he examined her soaked denim vest and matted hair. her sapphire blue eyes were staring straight at him, eerily still. he quickly looked away.
"yes. come on, luke, don't be a pussy. it's fun." michael taunted and took luke's gun. he once again slotted one bullet in one gun, sapphire's blood splattered gun behind him. he took one then passed it around for round two.
"i just think. i don't know, it just doesn't seem right to me." luke turned the gun around in his hands.
"well, i think you've been listening to liz too much. live a little." ashton patted luke's shoulder before raising his own gun to his head.
"well . . . okay, i guess." luke looked around the circle at the eight other teens, all with guns pressed to their temple. they really were playing with death and they were making a game out of it. luke was about to protest once again when calum started counting. luke brushed it off and waited to pull the trigger. he could just tell them after the round was over.
"one." alex held onto lisa's thigh, the veins in his arm becoming even more prominent.
"two." luke gulped, a bad feeling settling into his stomach.
"three." nine teenagers pulled their trigger, not knowing if they're safe for now or going to lodge a bullet in their brain.
bang.
blood landed on ashton's face, but he wasn't dead. he was still alive, horrified by what had just happened.
michael just smirked lightly and scribbled down the next name.
luke.
