"michael, are you insane?" lisa exclaimed, utterly shocked about what michael wants them to do.
"a little. but come on, we don't have anything better to do and nobody would care if any of us died." michael retorted.
"he has a point." sapphire said. all eyes turned to the shy girl that barely speaks. "what? he does."
the eight remaining teenagers all exchanged looks with each other before gazing down at the guns on the ground and the box of bullets in michael's hands.
"i say we do it." calum said. "come on guys, what's the worst that can happen?"
"we die." lisa deadpanned.
"i say that's a risk worth taking." marie said.
"okay, okay. enough chit chat. are we doing this or not?" ashton demanded.
everyone in turn nodded. everyone but lisa.
"no. i'm not doing this. this is death that we're talking about and we're treating it like a freaking game!" she yelled.
"lisa, babe, we're not treating this like a game. please. everyone else has already agreed. don't be such a debby downer." alex, lisa's boyfriend, kissed her cheek lightly and gave her his best puppy dog eyes.
"yeah lisa, don't be such a sour puss." calum teased, a smirk clear on his face.
"okay, fine. whatever. i'll play your stupid game." lisa gave up, throwing her hands up in the air. alex smiled and kissed her cheek as michael collected the guns.
"alrighty then. here's how it goes. i'll put a bullet in one gun," michael selected one of the ten identical guns and slotted in a bullet. "place them all back in the box," he put them back in the cardboard box. "then hand the box around. everyone takes one gun and waits until we all have one. press the gun up to our temple and pull the trigger on three. got that? one, two, and then when i say three we pull the trigger. not on two or after three. on three. one of us will be dead. the loser's gun will be removed from the box and we do the process all over again until one is left standing. everybody understand?"
the four girls and six boys nod with each other.
michael shuffled the guns around a bit, selected a gun, then passed it to the person next to him. sapphire grabs one, then lisa, alex, sara, marie, ashton, luke, ella and finally calum. michael set the box down next to him and raised his gun to his temple. everyone else followed his lead, some more shakily than others. sara had started to cry. ashton held tight onto marie's hand. luke's lip quivered. michael looked around the room calmly and began to count.
"one." a sob erupted from sara's mouth.
"two." marie slightly lowered her gun to give ashton a possibly final kiss.
"three." ten teenagers pulled their trigger, not knowing if they're safe for now or going to lodge a bullet in their brain.
bang.
the sound of her lifeless body echoed throughout the poorly lit room. michael grabbed a piece of paper and a pen to write down the order his friends die in.
sapphire.
