"Family isn't who you're born with, it's who you'd die for," Briar mimicked Steve and made her voice sound deep and gruff as she talked. Bucky cracked up at her imitation and Steve sighed in annoyance.
"I don't care how many times you do it, it's not funny," he lectured her for the millionth time.
"Lighten up, pops," she nudged his shoulder. He narrowed his eyes at her.
A few days ago, a few- hundred- children had managed to run over Steve with hugs and compliments and one of them managed to call him "pops."
Bucky swore he laughed so hard that his abs grew abs. As a result, Briar couldn't stop calling Steve "pops" every chance she got.
"Not funny," he grumbled.
"Is too!" Bucky and Briar clinked their glasses. Bucky chugged down his alcoholic drink while Briar chugged down her water.
"How do you do it?" Briar got all serious for a second. Both boys looked at her with serious expressions.
"Do what?" Steve asked.
"Act like you're completely fine when you know damn well that everyone in America is counting you. For everything." She wasn't trying to get him to stress more but she wanted to know.
Steve sighed, thankful they were done making fun of him and answered. "I don't do it myself, you know. I have amazing friends to help me," he smiled at Briar and ruffled Bucky's hair.
"Speaking of friends," Bucky and Briar exchanged devious smirks.
"Oh, God," Steve muttered.
"How's Peggy?" they both sang and stood up, dancing to the music the radio blared. Bucky had given it to her, knowing her love for music.
"I hate you."
"You know you love us."

"WHAT?" Briar shrieked, her coffee spilled on the floor but she didn't care. She absentmindedly used her telekinesis to summon a paper towel and cleaned it.
"I know," Bucky rubbed circles on her cheek with his thumb, his eyes filled with grief.
"But- but I miss him," Briar couldn't find the right words.
Bucky had just told her Steve's decision that occurred once they managed to defeat Thanos. Her mood switched rapidly from excited to miserable. Instead of watching a movie, they had spent the entire night catching up on everything. They went through 6 cups of coffee- each. Bucky told her stories that he remembered of the two of them during the war a majority of them involved Steve. Briar didn't even need to think if she remembered Steve. He played a huge part in her life and she would always remember him.
Bucky told her about Sam, Hill, and Sharon. He also managed to catch her up on the latest technological developments. Being the quick learner she is, Briar managed to retain all the new information quicker than him. As every hour flew by, she was becoming the Briar that Bucky remembered and treasured.
"Say," Briar blinked back a tear. "You never told me what he did with the shield."
Bucky didn't want to think about it. He had a feeling Briar would have the same reaction as he did. He had managed to contain his hatred for Sam and his decision to give the shield to the government. But now he was ready to explode with frustration.
