"You're... really close to me right now," Briar's breath hitched.

Bucky stared at her, mesmerized by all her features. She wasn't completely flawless.

But it was her imperfections that drew him in.

She had acne marks on her forehead and chin- the cut up lemons she rubbed on her face to get rid of them were working. The marks were starting to fade.

She had a bruise on her cheek- he didn't notice it last night so he knew it was recent.

"Who did this?" he gritted his teeth as he trailed a finger on her bruise.

She winced and pulled back slightly. Bucky's body stayed hovered over her body as he studied the bruise.

"No one," she answered.

"You're telling me you punched yourself on the cheek?"

"No," she scoffed and let her fingers fly up to his hair.

"Who did this?" he repeated again.

"I'm telling you- no one," she didn't budge.

Neither did he.

"Briar Dixon. You tell me who did this to you right now-"

"He told me he wanted to meet up for a small date," Briar blurted out. Bucky's gaze softened and he rubbed circles on her cheek with his hand- the one that wasn't bruised. He let her continue. "I didn't know... I didn't know he had other things in mind."

Bucky's eyes widened as he understood and immediately embraced her. Briar leaned up so she could snuggle her head in his chest.

It had been 3 days since the two interacted. He was busy with the soldiers and Briar spent all her time at her job.

He let her sob that day.

He let her get all the emotions that she was holding in out that day.

He held her- protectively.

He didn't tell her things like, "I'm sorry."

The only times he would interfere was when she would self-loathe herself and call herself stupid for being so gullible.

He held her tightly and didn't let go. Not even when she grew tired. He let her sleep with him- tightly embraced under the blanket.

"HYDRA," Walker echoed, interrupting Hill.

"Yes, I believe that's what I just said," Hill sighed. He was on thin ice with her, but she had to show him at least a smidge of respect as the one in charge.

Briar was glad she also didn't enjoy Walker's presence. To be fair, neither of them did. Sharon was the only one making sure Bucky didn't "accidentally" stab Walker to death in the backseat. The three of them were tightly bunched together in the back while Hill was driving and Briar was in the passenger seat.

Briar ignored the way Sharon's eyes lit up every time she made eye contact with Bucky.

Sam was with Fury getting everything they needed for Walker's arrival together.
