Kenzo was five when she decided she hated people.
Or perhaps Kenzo should clarify that specifically to the press people. They had been showing up recently outside of the Kurosawa front gates for the past few days, the good part about it was that Kenzo was slowly forgetting Miss Amy's piggy face and long and floating blond hair, the bad part is that they tend to get loud at around 6am and Kenzo had just gotten used to being able to sleep whenever she wanted. They would shout questions like-
"Is it true your daughter is quirkless!?"
"Why has Miss Kurosawa Junko been missing in action?"
"Rumor has it Miss Amy Aurora, Kurosawa Kenzo's teacher, has been fired! Is this true? And does this mean that the reclusive Kurosawa Kenzo is coming to public schools at the end of summer? "
"Will the Kurosawa business finally begin dealing with i-Island?"
"Has-
It gets annoying pretty quick. Perhaps if Kenzo had access to the internet then she would have found that a video of her standing at her window stock still for over several hours had been recorded live from what had originally started as a biking stream, was the reason for the spark in popularity and interest in her situation.
It took about a week for her father to break, kenzo was sure it was the first time her father had looked at her in about a month and a half.
Dressed in a desaturated red dress that went to her knees, off white stockings and a pair of black mary jane shoes, the same ones that kenzo wore to the hospital on that sunny day-
A red bow to match the color of her red dress, complementing Kenzo's own choppy blue hair. Kenzo personally had taken a liking to oversized sweaters and shirts that went down to her knees, however seeing as Kenzo doubted she would be able to go clothes shopping very soon and most of her clothing consisted of fancy dresses and dress shirts and skirts, along with a few hero onesies from the times Kenzo would play hero with her mom, most of the clothing she had taken a liking to where stolen from her mothers closet.
It was sunny today too, why did it have to be so bright? Kenzo stood on a small stage, not bothering keeping her back straight like she would have perhaps two months ago. Hands locked behind her back while swinging back and forth while looking back and forth and around at the crowd. Strangely enothe Kenzo felt a little nervous, which she felt herself stupid for. At this point she should be used to it, having been in front of even larger crowds even younger, but Kenzo didn't remember much of those times seeing as when that happened she couldn't even speak full sentences.
Kenzo couldn't help but wonder what will happen when it's confirmed that she's quirkless. Will the crowd geer and glare at her? Will they start to chant and throw things? It was then that Kenzo started to look for an escape route. There weren't many, there were people everywhere and they were in broad daylight. The most Kenzo could think of off the top of her head was to sprint off the side of the stage and see how far she could make it until someone grabbed her, and she didn't think she'd make it that far if the big men in blacksuits and sunglasses were anything to go by. Kenzo couldn't help but think about how hot they must get in those suits, it was a summer day in japan after all. Standing on her tiptoes to get a better look at the ones in the back of the crowd, unaware that said crowd had been cooing and taking pictures and videos of her swing back and forth and puffing her cheeks while her red dress swayed back and forth with her movement. Kenzo was currently a five year old and the daughter of a very successful man after all.
The first question was simple.
"Is the Kurokawa business planning to finally do business with i-island?"
The answer?
"It's complicated however we are working and conversing to figure something out"
"Why is Miss Kurokawa Junko missing in action?"
This was something Kenzo also wanted to know as well.
"My wife is currently 4 months pregnant and is staying in the hospital for potential issues"
Collective gasps were heard throughout the crowd as more people began to talk, taking pictures and catching the shocked look on Kenzo's face.
Questions shot left and right but Kenzo didn't listen to many of them as chater and people and flashes of light blurred together.
A replacement
Kenzo thought, of course.
"Will Kurokawa Kenzo be attending public school next year?"
"Yes" More new news to Kenzo.
"Will-" And as Kenzo's father kept on saying and revealing, practically feeding the press like they were ducks in a park. Questions blurred and then came the dreaded one.
"Is it true that Kurokawa Kenzo is quirkless?" Kenzo felt herself loose herself, and as the static seeped Kenzo could barely hear her father respond,
"No-"
What? Kenzo stared up at her father as he wore a smile she only saw in pictures, his lips moved but she couldn't hear him. Kenzo almost fell limp if her father didn't catch her as if he planned to pick her up all along. Kenzo could feel her father rest his chin on her head as she slowly tuned back in, the sound of the crowd coming in like an unsatisfying pop.
"She's just like her father, my little girl, I couldn't be more proud." Her father talked in a way that Kenzo had only dreamed of before, and for a moment she couldn't help but imagine a world where that was true, where he talked to her like he was proud.
Kenzo didn't remember much after that, the noise was too loud, the flashing lights and the sun a bit too hot. Kenzo couldn't stop smiling.
Kenzo didn't sleep that night.
