"AHHHHH!" Branch screamed, suddenly jumping up, as he woke up on the couch.
He looked around, panting heavily in fear, finally looking down at his watch.
It was still ticking.
Slowly, he began to calm down, realizing that it had all just been a dream... a horrible... horrible dream.
Just then, he remembered Poppy.
"Poppy!" he shouted, jumping to his feet, as he ran to his room, swinging the door open quickly.
He panted heavily, worried about Poppy, as he looked into the room.
She was still sleeping peacefully in his bed.
Branch sighed with relief, seeing she was safe.
Slowly, he walked over, sitting down beside her, as he kissed her forehead.
"It's ok, Poppy," he whispered. "I'm still here... I'm still here to protect you."
She smiled in her sleep, as if she could hear him in her dreams.
"I promise... I'm gonna do everything I can to stay with you."
Poppy yawned, slowly opening her eyes.
"Branch?"
He smiled down at her, rubbing her head, gently.
"Go back to sleep, Poppy. I was just making sure you where ok," he whispered.
She yawned again, closing her eyes.
"I love you, Branch," she said, softly.
He smiled down at her, a tear falling from his eye.
"I love you too, Poppy. So much..."
He kissed her head one last time, and then left the room, heading back to the couch to hopefully go back to sleep.
