—The Past Pov, Years ago—
"Hop, aren't you going to say hi to your new neighbors....???"
Mum called out to me with a smile.
"New neighbors? I don't know."
I frowned.
I was (x) years old this time, I had been alone ever since big bro Lee started his Pokémon journey. I was unsure about making a new friend.
"Come on Hop, don't be shy."
Mum grabbed my hand, she took me outside with her.
We gathered around the house near us, a woman and her daughter who looked to be the same age as me came out.
"Hello Ms. (l/n), it's nice to meet you. I'm (name) (l/n), this is my son Hop (l/n). It's nice to meet you new neighbor, I hope you enjoy it here at Postwick."
Mum said.
"Hello Ms. (l/n), your son is so adorable...! I think he'd make great friends with (y/n) here! (y/n), why don't you go play with Hop while I clean here?"
(y/n)'s mum said.
(y/n) nodded, she came over to me and grabbed both my hands. (y/n) wore (insert clothes) and had (long/short hair) with (skin color) and (eye color) that went with her and a bright smile.
"It's nice to meet you Hop!"
(y/n) smiled.
My face flushed a little, she seemed so cheerful.
"I-It's nice to meet you too....!"
I nodded, quickly swiping my hands away from hers.
My Wooloo came alongside us, she seemed happy to see (y/n).
"She's so cute! She reminds me of you a little."
(y/n) laughed a little.
My face flushed again.
"Wooloo says she likes you."
I smiled a little.
Why was I so nervous.....? She was such a nice girl and yet I was hesitating around her.
"Come on, let's go play inside my place! I can show you my room."
I smiled, returning back to my no-so-shy self.
I led (y/n) into my room, I showed her my little collection of Pokémon merch and stuff about Leon.
"Lee left years ago to pursue the Pokémon challenge. He won and became champion so he hasn't been home in years. I miss him."
I sighed.
"Champion Leon's your brother??? That's so cool! You look like him too!"
(y/n) cheerfully said.
"Y-Yeah I get that often... When I grow up I also want to take over and become the next champion."
I smiled proudly.
"Me too! I want to pursue the gym challenge too!"
She'd smile as well.
"Really?? I guess that would make us future rivals huh?"
I looked over at her.
"Yeah."
She nodded.
We made an oath that we'd be rivals the moment we started our journey together..
But that's not how I fell in love with her... It sort of happened when....
"Leave him alone....!!"
She shouted as she stood in front of me.
I was being bullied that day, the one to defend me that time was (y/n). What was I being bullied for? So called claiming that I'd become champion.
"(y/n), you don't have to—"
"If he wants to become champion then let him pursue it! Everyone has dreams! And I believe in Hop's. I think Hop is cool and very cute!"
She'd shout as she defended me.
My face flushed a little, I was surprised she'd say such things about me.
My bullies left me alone after she had stuck up for me, I didn't ask her to do so yet she did anyways.
"(y/n), why did you do that? You put yourself in a bad situation here."
I scratched my head a little, frowning to myself.
"Because you're my friend, and I like you. I'm not going to let people step on you around like that."
Her bright warm smile made me feel so strange....
"Mum, what do I do if I keep thinking of someone?"
I questioned as I helped her clean around the house.
"Depends, what do you feel about that person?"
Mum asked.
"Well, I feel weird inside. In a sweet way, I don't really know much about it."
I said as I scratched my head a little.
"Well, do you like them?"
Mum looked at me in confusion.
"Like them? I do! I think they're amazing and—"
"Not in that way, you see Hop dear there's two types of ways of liking someone. One, you like them in a way where you want to see their happiness, where you want to be closer to them."
Mum teased a little as she laughed to herself.
"What.....??? No.... That's... Dumb!"
I yelled.
I stopped talking to mum and I went outside to play around with Wooloo. I tried to get my mind off this until I saw (y/n) passing by with her mum outside.
She waved a little, she smiled at me with that same sweet smile that always intrigued me whenever she was around.
That damned smile, the one that made me realize how badly I wanted to protect it. To protect her, and to be around her. I've loved her ever since we were kids, she always seemed so oblivious to my feelings but even so I'm not about to give them up.
But at the same time, I want to be someone who's worthy to her.
That's why.....
—Hop's pov—
"Hop? Hop, you've been spacing out for a while, wake up Hop."
A familiar voice said, waving their hands in front of my face as I snapped back to reality.(hey Eminem lmao)
"Huh??? Where am I??"
I waved my head around as I looked around.
She chuckled softly, covering his mouth with her hand.
"No Hop, we're at the Pokémon cafe. Did I finally wake you up from an eternal slumber?"
She'd tease.
"I guess you did, well then I guess I'd like this and that."
I placed my order.
I had completely forgotten that (y/n) and I are taking our little break off the gym challenge.
