chapter seven
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━"I don't understand why I have to go."
"Well, for one, David did leave the keys here for you. Second, I think it'd be good for you."
"No, you used that card already, it's why I willingly got on a plane and talked to the kid in the first place. I don't see any good in me tagging along with the welcome wagon when I can just stick the keys to Aaron."
Kevin, Andrew, Aaron, and Nicky sat awkwardly on the couch, shoulder to shoulder and able to hear every word spewing out from the kitchen, the one wall that separated them securing almost no privacy. They'd just been about to leave to pick up Neil when Abby stopped them in their tracks and tried to throw Maeve at them, who wouldn't allow it without a little (lot) bit of a fight.
"It's your responsibility, Maeve, and it's not gonna kill you to join them for a day." Abby sighed,"You don't even have to talk to Neil if you don't want to, just go with the group and maybe you might even—"
"Have fun?" Maeve finished,"I doubt it."
"You just haven't really bonded with this side of the team yet." The woman frowned.
"Because the girls and I are such good friends?" She scoffed in response.
"You're roommates, at least! I know you like Renee, as much as you like to pretend you that don't, and you don't exactly avoid Matt like he's the plague either." Abby tried to not let her own frustration get to her,"I get the thing with Seth, I do, and I'll even let your issues with Allison and Dan slide, but you haven't even given Kevin a chance since he got here!"
Nicky elbowed Kevin in the ribs at the mention of him and Andrew rolled his eyes.
"Hence why you sent him up to get me last night, I'll bet— you know what? Fine, whatever, I'll go, but I'm not playing today."
They turned away instinctively as Maeve left the kitchen, but she knew they had to have heard something, if not everything from where they sat. She didn't wait,"Let's go."
Andrew was up in an instant, following her out as Abby called out for them to have some sort of lunch later on. She slid her signature black framed glasses onto her face and managed to catch the matching outfits the twins wore, she did a double check to the one she'd pinpointed as Andrew not two seconds ago and questioned what was going on.
Were they not all going to the airport?
She followed the second twin into the back and decided that Andrew was definitely Andrew, solely on the fact that for as long as she'd known him, he'd never let Aaron into the driver's seat. Nicky, yes, but she also wouldn't try to make sense of that logic right now.
Which was why she didn't say anything in regards to it as the car came to a stop outside Wymack's apartment complex.
"Everyone except Maeve get out."
They obeyed and Maeve leaned forward,"Do tell me you're gonna drop me off in the desert, only for me to never be seen again, or at least give a good reason for wasting more of my time. No, no, go on, this should be good."
