☂ do you have my sister? If not, would you like a margarita? ☂
(if anyone is confused, I'm currently editing this story so that is why comments don't make sense and things are a bit switched around.)
____
Five has fallen into an uncomfortably familiar pattern of treating me like a child. I suppose it doesn't help that I follow him around like one, but what other choice do I have?
I need answers.
So I strive to achieve Five's full disclosure, no matter how unhappy it makes the both of us.
It seems we've been walking well through the night. Do you know how I can tell? The birds have raised their pea-brains from their peepholes in the walls of buildings and are beginning to squeal in the early morning city.
I see three joggers pounding down the pavement like they do not know it has barely cracked 4am.
The air is tight, coolness nipping the skin on my face.
And something -- something important -- still bothers me.
"Why is it that you hate me?" I say, stopping mid stride. Five keeps walking for a moment, as if my words have not registered. Then, realizing I am no longer directly behind him, he stops. Wheels around.
"Come again?"
"You heard what I said, Five."
"Perhaps I didn't. Kindly repeat yourself?"
"Come off it," I say. "You hate me for no good reason."
"How could I hate you? We've just met." Five attempts to continue walking, but I force his feet to stop, drawing my palm upwards in a gentle movement.
Five's hands land on his hips and his slow, deliberate head-turn is less than happy.
"Tell me the truth."
Five sighs. "Let me go."
"Are you going to run off, like a child?"
"No."
"Fine." I release my hold, and no sooner than I have, Five blinks, disappearing and reappearing behind me like a magician. His arm wraps tightly around my neck, trapping me in a choke hold. Now it is absolutely clear he hates me.
"Don't even dream of using your powers on me again," Five says, his lips close to my throat. "Remember, I can snap your neck within an instant."
Breathing heavily, I close my eyes. Five's arm retracts.
"You fucker."
"Guilty."
Five's lips drift into what might be a smile. Of course it's nearly a smile, he loves causing other people pain.
"At least tell me the truth of how we met," I demand. "I know you didn't find me dead with the rest of our siblings."
"I couldn't possibly lie to you, Y/N," Five says, smoothly adjusting the tie of his uniform. He doesn't look at me, instead quirks an eyebrow at the sky and brushes his hair back.
"Oh, please. That is yet another lie."
"If I were to lie to you, you would never know," Five says.
Moments tick by. The sun appears to rise faster now. I have no idea how long we have been standing on this sidewalk.
"I can get the answer out of you, like it or not," I say, my voice growing quiet. "So why don't you do us both a favour and spit it out?"
