"Lucien, are you listening to me?"
Celeste's soft voice cut into his thoughts and the siphon looked up to see her staring at him with waiting eyes, her brows slightly raised with concern. Next to her, Madhavi sat down, her arms crossed over her shoulder as she patiently waited for him to respond.
"Sorry. I was in my thoughts" he admitted, clearing his throat. Beside him, he could hear Esmeralda let out a deep breath, gently patting him on the shoulder. "Can you repeat what you said?"
"I said the lineage spell was successful and Venix is going to be fine. She's suffered a few bruises but they'll heal relatively quickly" Celeste informed, offering him a smile.
He let out a quick sigh of relief, nodding his head.
"And the dark magic?" he asked.
"I was able to eradicate it as well. Madhavi wasn't able to find the source of the blood bond but she fractured it so it will offer her some temporary relief while we work to figure out what is going on" she informed.
"Thank you both. I appreciate your help" he said.
"More than you'll ever know" Esmeralda chimed in.
Madhavi passed her a passive look, simply nodding her head before turning away to whisper something to Celeste. The two women communicated in a foreign language, leaving Lucien to sit alone with his thoughts and his sister.
"When can I see Venix?" he asked, looking over to his sister.
"Soon. She's still asleep but I'm sure she'll let us know when she's awake. Don't dwell too much on it for now" she advised, tapping his arm.
He nodded, looking down at the floor, so many questions still unanswered in his mind. He ran a hand through his hair, gingerly rubbing the back of his neck in thought.
"What are you thinking about?" Esmeralda asked, capturing his attention.
He let out a breath, shaking his head.
"It might be a bit of an intrusive thought but I was wondering what the lineage spell revealed about Venix. She rarely talks about her family and I don't have the heart to ask her and come off as insensitive or prying."
Esmeralda pressed her lips together, passing a look to Madhavi who had no doubt heard his words. She tapped Celeste and whispered something in her ear which caused her eyes to widen, her dark eyes sliding over to meet his gaze.
"You're that curious?" she asked.
He nodded. "If you don't mind telling me of course."
"I don't but I tell you this with caution," she warned. "She's still learning about her family and powers so approach the topic with a sense of fragility if you are going to discuss it with her. You don't want to seem as if you are internally judging her for factors she can not control."
