The morning came too slowly

The morning came too slowly. By the time the sun was barely peeking over the horizon, Venix was already up and dressed. Her damp hair was plastered to her face, little droplets soaking her back as she pulled on her boots and tied them tight.

Her movements were uncoordinated and rushed, her mind still swimming with the interaction she had with Talon. Nightmares had plagued her mind in her sleep, even the deep depths of her mind bringing up memories she refused to acknowledge. Memories she had burned a long time ago in her mind.

But now they were back and taunting her in the back of her mind.

Hiding numerous daggers underneath her clothing and pulling a black cloak over her shoulders, she sighed and made her way out the door, the empty hallway welcoming her. The door behind her clicked close, leaving nothing but her alone in the dim darkness. Licking her lips, the BloodBone made her way up the set of winding stairs, making sure her footsteps were quiet.

She had no idea where she was going, only knowing that she needed to feel the cool air of the morning. She kept walking up the stairs until she stumbled upon a small space with one door. Taking a deep breath, Venix reached out and pushed the door open, feeling the cool air of morning wind brush against her skin. The BloodBone stepped outside, closing the door behind her. The wide second-story balcony of the lodge was wet with last night's precipitation, the smell of pine and wood drifting up to her nose.

She made her way over to the edge of the balcony, her hands clamping around the railing as she took a deep breath, feeling her body relax against the gentle wind. Though her fingers had a firm grasp of the wood railing, her heart was pounding against her ribcage. The blood in her body felt hot as if it was overflowing and her face was hot and cold at the same time.

"Fuck!" the BloodBone hissed under her breath, conjuring a violet ball in her hand.

She held it to her face, all her anger and fears channeling into the magical ball floating on her palm. The violet color turned blood red just like her eyes were doing right now, balancing on the edge of burgundy and ruby blood. With a ferocious cry, she hurled the ball out into the morning, watching as it spiraled into the air and sliced through trees and branches.

She watched as thick branches fell to the ground by the sheer force of her magic, evergreen leaves whipping violently around the air. Venix watched with her jaw locked, a hot tear running down her face. With a sigh, she buried her fingers through her hair and leaned against the wood railing, taking deep breaths.

Her mind was racing with thoughts that screamed in her mind, clawing at her senses until she could no longer comprehend what reality and delusion were. She was burning on the edge of insanity and she didn't know how to stop it.

In between her thoughts, Venix didn't realize the shadow looming behind her until cold hands pressed into her shoulders, squeezing tight.

Her body tensed up. Immediately, she jabbed her elbow into the person's ribcage. A groan escaped their lips as she grabbed his hand and twisted tightly, her legs swinging down to kick the person on the floor.
