LEONA
I had noticed earlier on that this one girl in particular would not stop eyeing Nolton. I knew he was the type that was going to be looked at a lot but damn, this girl had it bad for him.
I wasn't disturbed or nothing but when I walked into the house towards the end of the night to grab my things to head home, I seemed to have interrupted something as I quickly noticed the girl glaring at me for I terrupting and him giving me a look that was told funny yet weird at the same time. it was almost as if I caught him doing something he wasn't supposed to.
That's why I quickly told them that I didn't mean to interrupt and started heading out before things became real awkward.
So I started saying my goodbye's to everyone and since Brett and Marlie were going to call for a cab or something to pick them up and take them home later, I was walking out to the front of the house after putting pants on and my sweater then taking my phone out of my purse to call, but the reception was shit here for some reason.
So I waited until I got to the end of the driveway where the reception seemed to be a lot better and began to call when I heard a car pull up beside me all of a sudden. I turned and saw it was......Nolton?
"Need a ride?" He asks.
"Nah thanks. I'm calling a cab." I replied.
"Come on. Don't need to waste money on a stranger that will over charge ya when I can give you a ride home for free." He smiles.
Damn that smile of his. But wait, what about the girl?
"What about Lacie? Aren't you guys...." I started but he stopped me quickly.
"Nah. We ain't together." He laughs a little.
"Oh." Was all I said before I finally heard somebody from the cab company pick up and right as they said 'hi' I looked at Nolton again who was looking at me with a raised eyebrow.
He was right, why pay when he could give me a ride home for free? Besides, we seem to have started over again.so I apologize and hang up before getting into his car.
This was a little awkward in a way. Just sitting in his car and not listening to music, starting to feel the awkward silence come on. That was until he finally said something.
"If you're cold, we can roll up the windows and I can turn the heat on." He says.
I hadn't realized how cold it was until I saw my hands clapped together between my legs to keep warm.
"Uh, please." I replied.
He then rolled up the windows and turned on the heater along with some seat warmers as well.
"Just let me know if it gets too warm." He mentions.
"Okay. Thanks." I tell him.
"No problem." He says as he continues looking out at the road.
Guess it was my turn to try and avoid any room for an awkward silent moment.
"Wow, never been in a nice car like this where the seats heat up." I tell him.
"Really? It's practically a standard in most cars now. Do you have one from the 90's or something?" He teases.
"No. But it just doesn't have features like this. What other features does it have? Do your cups cool down or heat up in the cup holders?" I joked.
He laughed too before replying.
"They do a tually. This car was customer made, to be honest. And here, this right here, you can plug in what we call a 'car charger' and you can charge your phone too." He teases me.
"Haha." I reply sarcastically of course. "I have one of those."
"I wasn't sure." He continues to tease. "But seriously, a cool feature I like, well, one of them, is that I actually charge my phone on this charging pad that is built in on the dash next to the radio here. It's almost magnetic in a way and you just set your phone on it and it stays there until you remove it, bit it charges that for you and is even solar powered." He states.
"Holy shit. Now THAT is fancy, you have to admit." I tell him.
"Yeah, I guess." He says.
"So, if you don't mind me asking, what is it that you do? Are your parents rich?" I ask him not sure if it was appropriate or not. I just figured since we're trying to start over and since I misjudged him and was rude that one day about him and what he does, I thought maybe this way I would know. Then again on the other hand, it isn't really too personal, I don't think.
"Well, for starters, my parents both died when I was a year old. I was then sent to a foster home and was tossed from family to family until the third family, adopted me and yes, they had money. But I always made my own way. They taught me how to make a living early on. Then when I was sixteen, my foster dad showed me around in what all he did and eventually, I took over his business. Then my foster mom died of cancer when I was seventeen and my father was killed when I was twenty. That was eight years ago." He stops himself and then I notice a look on his face that seemed to be of guilt or and regret but for what, I'm not sure. Could it be that maybe he didn't mean to tell me all of that?
I am glad that he did though, either way.
"I'm sorry to hear that." I tell him with sincerity.
"It's fine. It's life." He shrugs it off. "Besides, I was left with a business and job already. In which the job is me investing in people and their businesses. Helping out those that truly need it and who most of the time are worthy of a chance in succeeding." He states.
Wow, I completely had him labeled entirely wrong. Which I am starting to feel a little guilty about now.
Man, tonight was.......interesting, to say the least.
Next chapter will be posted soon! :)
