Link had found his way to the top of the wall, from where he had a good view on the battle going on around him.
Although most of the enemies focused on the gate itself were monsters, he could now also see the human forces.
A few of them were concentrated on top of the very wall where he stood, trying to force back the Gerudo and Rito that opposed them.
As Link came closer he saw one of the strange men swing his sword at a Rito, forcing him to step back. This caused his legs to hit the lining of the wall, and after another push from his opponent, he tumbled backwards over the edge.
Luckily for him, he managed to turn his body and spread his wings, just in time to soften his landing and save his life.
Link didn't wait to see the rest of the battle play out, and pushed forward, swinging his sword with deadly accuracy.
It felt wrong to attack regular human beings, not knowing what they were even fighting for, but he did it anyway. He just couldn't let them take the castle.
These people had chosen violence, and he was not going to let that slide.
When he had worked his way towards the thick of the fight, they seemed to notice something changing, as one after the other assailant fell down.
A brief moment of confusion followed, enough for Link to take down the first person in his vicinity, and push another over the edge of the wall.
Now they finally realized this new threat, and with a few quick words, they formed one front, facing him.
Link turned his sword in his hand and grimaced confidently, his eyes following their movements and judging who would go first.
He knew little of their way of fighting, but by the looks of it they were organized and prepared. He shouldn't underestimate them.
Two of them attacked simultaneously, from completely different angles, but Link stepped back and blocked one, dodging the other.
He then pushed hard at the sword he had blocked, making the man stumble backwards.
Link pulled back his sword, and without taking his eyes off the man, stabbed at the other one.
This one had not been expecting that, and had already raised his sword for a second blow. One that would never come.
The Master Sword pierced his skin right under his armpit, and the man sunk to his knees.
Link had no time to regret this, however, as the other guy was back on his feet and coming at him fast.
The knight stepped forward, contrary to what his opponent was expecting, and caught the sword mid-swing.
The unexpected resistance made the man loose his grip, and the weapon clattered onto the stones.
In the same motion, Link put his shoulder against the man's chest and shoved him aside, where he lost his balance and got knocked against the wall.
Without waiting for the result, Link stepped forward to face the next assailants coming at him, although they seemed slightly less enthusiastic now that they had seen their companions defeated so quickly.
Still, there were a lot more of them, against one knight, no matter how skilled he might be. So they attacked.
Link had to try his hardest to keep his attention on all of them at once, but they unknowingly gave him an advantage.
The sheer amount of people trying to kill him was now preventing them from putting up a proper fight.
As the attackers circled around Link, bumping into each other and trying not to accidentally take out someone's eye, he had time enough to pick them off one by one.
Eventually there were no more than five of them still standing, and while they had been busy with Link, the Gerudo and Rito had dealt with the rest, steadily clearing the wall of enemies.
Heavily outnumbered, they quickly gave up, a couple of them even jumping back over the wall.

Link allowed himself a moment of rest, as he watched the warriors around him recover and resume order.
The wounded were carefully transported to the ground, where they would be taken to the castle and seen to by medics.
Slowly the peace returned, and their forces regrouped, ready to face any further attacks on the wall.
Link looked down at the ground, where the fight was still going on as intense as ever.
More monsters had wormed their way through the gate, and their army was slowly losing ground.
With one last, deep sigh, Link walked to the stairs and ran down, two steps at a time.
At full speed he barrelled himself into the chaos, twisting and turning between the fighting bodies, his sword shimmering in the sunlight, as he cut his way through the hordes of monsters.
He had much less remorse about these creatures, and they didn't even put up half the fight that the humans had done.
His mind went blank, as Link moved purely on instinct, almost dancing through the enemies.
