I looked at myself in the mirror. Shimmering black heels on my feet, gold chandelier earrings dangling from my earlobes, a gold necklace hovered over my cleavage. My make-up simple but done to perfection, I had Cara to thank for that. And my hair in a top messy bun with stray curly strands lazily shaping my face. I wore a champagne gold cocktail dress.
I specifically wore gold because a special someone said he loved me in gold. He said there was something about me in gold that took him back to the first time he saw me across the room at the masquerade ball and according to him that was a magical night, and I agree.
Cara said I looked beautiful and I truly felt beautiful. I smiled nervously at my reflection as I mouthed the words: I love you. See, that wasn't so hard. Now all I had to do was say it to Justin. The only person I probably love more than life itself. It shouldn't be hard to tell him that I love because I do and it's hurting him not knowing that I love him. Actually I think he knows that I love him, he is just hurt that I can't tell him that. I know I would be hurt too if I were him.
I walked out of the venue's toilet and into the room where the main event would happen. I walked into the elegant room. The room was very warm which allowed everyone to leave their winter coats either by the coat hangers at the door or hang them behind their seats when they are seated.
"Lerato." Naledi called out to me. I turned to her. She was dressed in a navy blue dress with a really big bow. She looked adorable.
"Wow, look at you." I said when she was at arms length.
"I did look at myself in the mirror." She replied. I mentally smacked myself in the face. I missed her weird self.
"What I mean is, you look stunning." I explained to her and she shook her head.
"You could've said so," she rolled her eyes, "anyway who is that?" She pointed towards a girl about her age who had on a dress similar to hers but the girl's dress was red.
"That is Sapphire Quinn. She is a nice girl, a lot like you. You should go say hi, maybe you will both be friends." I suggested and she frowned.
"Absolutely not, I don't like her." She said to me and I raised an eyebrow in her direction.
"Why not?" I asked.
"I don't want to be like anyone. I like being unique and she," she pointed to Sapphire, "is ruining that with her dress."
I chuckled while I shook my head. "Are you jealous?" I asked her.
"Yes, which is why I'm going to sing for everyone. I'm going to sing so beautifully that all eyes will be on me." She grinned and skipped off to Mama.
Naledi was such an unconsciously honest child which is why her admitting that she was jealous is not a surprise to me. I know a lot of people would have denied being jealous, me included but not my baby sister. And as for her singing, she had a powerful singing voice that could carry notes more than kids her age are able to. So all eyes will be on her indeed. I come from a 'musical' family, remember?
I looked around the room but couldn't find the one man I'm looking for. Justin was nowhere to be found.
I sighed looking at Tumi and Emerald seated on the chairs. My brother was giving his girlfriend a foot massage while they talked to each other with smiles of their faces. Emerald kept unconsciously rubbed circles over her large belly and Tumi placed kisses on her belly every once in a while. Emerald was clueless to the real reason for everyone being here.
I walked towards the bar and took a seat on one of the barstools. It was an open bar and we all got free drinks until tomorrow at one in the morning.
