We were both hiding behind a tall building with our masks on. Kylie was beside me, kneeling on one leg as she prepared all our gadgets needed. While she did that, I was on watch duty as I had just finished disabling most of the security cameras.
I didn't exactly like the idea of it but it's not like we had much of a choice, to begin with. Kylie and I have been doing these kinds of stuff since we were kids. It was the only way we know of surviving. Pickpocketing random strangers, snatching anything that we need or want. The habit became practically part of us. But this was going to be way more challenging.
It took her a few minutes to recheck and reload a few of the backup ink.
"Are we all set?" I asked her when she stood up.
She nodded.
"This isn't going to be a piece of cake but we have to try. It's the only other option we have left. Also, fix your mask dude, it's ruffling your hair out."
I felt the top of my head before adjusting the night goggles and pulling them down to my eyes.
"The store owner's out. We should be good to go," I informed her.Kylie always calls the shots on this. She was the older twin after all. We both peeked out from where we were. Across the street was the store itself. It sold different kinds of trades and artifacts given by numerous people out of Inkopolis. They were all worth a steal but there's one specific treasure that we had our eyes on.
After crossing over to the other side, we quietly made our way to the back part of the store. Kylie pulled out a lockpicking device and used it to try and open the door.
Click!
In about 2 minutes flat the door was unlocked. Without warning, I playfully pushed Kylie aside to make way for me to get in first. She groaned and mumbled something about annoying siblings before following behind me. We were now in the back area of the store, hiding behind a bunch of crates and boxes, some stacked on top of each other. It looked a lot like some kind of mini storage room.
I know none of these have the object we need. From what I remembered it was already out of the package. Kylie pushed a bunch of the crates and boxes aside, unknowingly knocking some of them off.
Before they could hit the ground I quickly dove in and caught them. I let out a sigh of relief. I know we're trying to steal from this store owner but I didn't want to harm any more artifacts. Besides, we'd be leaving more traces of our crime scene.
"C'mon Kyle!"
I quietly put back the crates in a spot and followed her through the door. We stepped out into a hallway lined with heck a ton of doors, right around the corner the hallway leads to what seems to be the lobby. We both agreed to split up the work. Kylie would go ahead and look at the lobby while I checked a bunch of the offices. If we have some info to share, we'll be able to talk with our earpiece.
Seemed a bit dull to me. I checked the first three rooms to the right. There were all nothing but a bunch of filing cabinets and a janitor's closet. Nothing really interesting in here.
After coming out of the third room I noticed a door at the end of the hallway. It looked a lot more detailed than the others I've come out of. I clicked my tongue as I realized that might be the boss's office. Coming up to the door, I took out my own lockpick and quickly lockpicked the door. This door has two locks on it.
I have a good feeling it must be in here. The minute the second lock unlocked, I pushed the door wide open. I was about to take one step forward only to quickly stop myself when my eyes met a bunch of bright red lights. Just beyond the door were layers of lasers. I could've been lasered to smithereens if I'd rushed in!
I scoffed as I studied the pattern of the lasers. This guy sure is protective of this office. Too bad for him though.
I lowered myself to the ground and carefully splatted ink beneath the lasers. With a little headcount going on in my head, I turned myself to squid form and dashed and jumped through the lasers with ease. When I encountered a laser near the ground, I lowered my squid head and swam through the ink I splatted.
Eventually, I made it past the lasers safely. "Not too bad Kyle," I told myself quietly with a smirk. Remembering the reason why I was here I began to take a look around the office. It looked the usual. A big black rotating chair complete with a desk stacked with a bunch of paperwork and other stuff. At one side of the room there was a small rectangular window overlooking the outside and over on the other side were a bunch of bookshelves and cabinets.
It wasn't anywhere here so I'm guessing it must be hidden. I tried checking out the most obvious of places on where to hide. I checked the desk and closets but was left with nothing. That left me with the bookshelf.
I'm guessing this could be like a scenario from the movies I used to sneak and watch. I tried pulling out a bunch of the books away from the shelves but there was no book switch to be seen. Reluctantly, I let out a heavy sigh and started putting the books back. When I got to the last section of the shelf, I noticed a strange hidden button at the back. I didn't notice it at first but it was camouflaged to be the same color as the wall.
I pressed it. It glowed a bright green color and I heard something move. I looked to the side to see just at the side near the desk was a small area now opened. I knew those movies were worth it!
I opened up the small secret wall to find none other than the treasure we've been seeking. It was a statue made out of some rare kind of material. I can't really recall what that material was but the boss told us it was expensive.
Its designs were very intricate and had two seahorses swimming together with a bunch of sea plants around them. At the base of the sculpture were some words written on it.
I don't have much time to sit around and read it because that was when I heard footsteps coming from the door. I turned to see none other than the store owner standing and blocking my only exit. I couldn't duck or hide as the storeowner had already set his eyes on me. I was caught red-handed!
"Hey! Get your hands off that!"
Frantically, I reached in and pulled out a kind of smoke bomb. The store owner got distracted. I used that to buy me some time to slide myself away from the office and escape.
"Kylie, get off the building. We've been caught!" I told her through my earpiece.
"I know, I'm already out. I've been trying to call you about a million times earlier."
"Really? I couldn't hear a single thing."
"Are you deaf or something!?" Kylie practically shouted.
"Not now, do you want me to drop off the treasure or not?"
The store owner was hot on my tail, holding out his own splat gun and trying to slow me down. I can't afford to lose this or even lay a single scratch on the treasure. It was the only way we'd get enough money to travel and enter the turf war competition!
Just before the security doors of the shop could slam shut, I quickly splatted the ground with some ink and slid my way out the bottom of the door.

Hi! Hope you enjoy that reminiscence of agent 4. I might try making a reminiscence related to agent 8 next (no promises though). I'll be posting the original chapters by next week or maybe next, next week. The school year is already starting for me (our summer break was so short, I hate that >:/) so might take me a while to adjust. But umm I'm guessing maybe my new schedule might be a chapter once every two weeks but if I'm lucky and got a little free time, Ill be able to post earlier. Anyways that's all cya lol
