|| Chapter 1: First night at Inkopolis ||

Agent 3's POV

I woke up slowly and shook my head to clear whatever dizziness I had. Ugh, what happened? Just then I realized I wasn't in the same place where I had gotten unconscious. Instead, I was on a platform with Marina, Pearl, Cap'n Cuttlefish, and...him! The first thing I saw when I had opened my eyes was that octoling boy. He was looking at me curiously, watching as I wake up. I raised an eyebrow at him. Hasn't he ever seen an inkling before?

He must've seemed to notice my eyebrow raised because he gave a smile at me. I'm not an inkling who is scared to say how I feel...well most of the time but I am not scared to tell that I may have felt something weird. A feeling that I'm kind of familiar with but I am scared to admit it. So instead, I tried to push that feeling away. Then Cap'n walked towards me. "Oh! Agent 3, good to have you back from your sleep! Rested well?" He gave a little chuckle. I sent him a confused look. "What just happened?" I asked. "Oh right. That stupid telephone brainwashed you and you ended up tangling me up. But it's all good." Now I was even more confused.

I was controlled? By that telephone machine. All I could try to remember was of a terrible nightmare I had of tying Cap'n Cuttlefish up and fighting that octoling boy- Oh...I shook my head a bit to clear my silliness. That wasn't a nightmare at all! It was actually real. Except I couldn't do anything. Well, I could feel half of me being able to move my body and it does feel like I was trying to break free from something. But the rest of me had felt paralyzed and I couldn't feel my arms or legs.

I then felt the back of my head and noticed there was a bandage in it. I must've been hit hard so it seems.

Just behind me, Marina and Pearl came walking by. "This is Marina and Pearl, they're part of the new squid group." I gave them a wave, Pearl returning it while Marina giving me a warm smile. Then I turned my attention to the octoling boy, who was still smiling at me. I pointed a finger at him. "Who is he?" I ask. "Oh sorry. This ol' pal here is agent 8. He's part of the Squid Beak Splatoon too!" I gave the octoling a frown. "Don't think too much about it 3. Sure he's an octoling but this is a new era. It's not the same as before. Remember, we're fighting for a better future, a future for octolings and inklings," Cap'n said calmly. I rolled my eyes but gave an understanding nod.

Then out of nowhere, the octoling boy extended his arm out. I hesitated. Should I take it? It took me a few minutes, before I finally shook it, probably a bit too roughly. But instead of being angry at me, he just laughed it out. Then he took out his splat gun and splatted pink ink around me, which fortunately didn't hit me, or else I could've taken damage.

Then he playfully turned into an octopus and swam around me in a circle. I tried to hold my laugh. Once he was done, he turned back into an octoling boy and he gave me a teasing smile. I shrugged my shoulders, not sure how to reply to that. It became quiet between the two of us. That is until Marina and Pearl broke it. "Hey guys, stop being standbys and come check out the view from up here!" Pearl said. "It's squidtastic!" I reluctantly walked to the edge of the platform where Cap'n, Marina, and Pearl were already sitting, preparing to watch the sunset. I noticed that 8 was following me.

He probably wants to sit beside me I thought. Before he could even have a chance, I quickly sat beside Cap'n Cuttlefish. 8 seemed to hesitate, but after a while, he shrugged and stood to watch it. I didn't mean to be rude to him but...I still can't help the feeling that he's an octoling and that I should still keep my suspicions up about him. However, now was not the time to dwell on that. I'm here to watch a sunset after all!

We soon landed on the beach side safely and secretly. No one had seemed to notice since every squid was busy packing their stuff and some were already leaving the beach. After a little walk we made it back to the base, where we placed our weapons there. Marina and Pearl stretched their arms. "Can we go home now Pearl? I'm exhausted," Marina said sleepily. Pearl nodded. The two of them both said their goodbyes before leaving the base.
