Agent 4's POV
Kylie and I had finally earned enough money to pay the entry fee. We had our eyes set on first place.
I had to go around in the junkyard to find any usable weapons we could. I ended up getting two worn-out Splattershots. Not really the shiniest thing but it'll do.
We were going by duos. She didn't trust partnering with anyone to mess this up. Neither could I really. The first rounds were a piece of cake. Everyone was practically a newbie. Part of me did feel bad and wanted to go easy on them. But this is a turf battle. NO MERCY!
The second batch was slightly challenging. We were battling against amateurs and we maybe sucked in more than we can chew. Surprisingly, we still made it through. The matches after that were a lot harder. I ended up getting thrown out of the map or getting squashed by a splot roller It didn't help that my sister kept barging in at the wrong time or place.
I made my way to the locker room, dead tired. I laid myself on the empty benches, my arms spread out. I took a deep breath in, before exhaling with a loud sigh.
That was exhausting! Pretty sure my confidence in winning was wavering. I then heard the sound of the door creaking open. Kylie had barged in.
When she turned to face me, I noticed she was carrying a big sack, that hung over her shoulders.
She beckoned me to come out.
She led me back out into the side. There was a wired fence but we quickly swam underneath it.After making sure the coast was clear, Kylie let out a sigh of relief before opening up the sack. Inside were...our weapons? But something seemed off about it. It looked more, how do I say this...fresh.
"I don't get it."
"I've got your lame weapons upgraded. New and improved! This way we're sure to win. It's got automatic targeting and firing. Our ink storage has been upgraded, oh and I've swapped our splat bombs as well."She fished out our new auto bombs from her pocket. They immediately started running straight towards me. I was able to get a closer look at it to see that it had mini splat guns attached to its side. When it exploded, it had a stronger blast that literally knocked me back into the wall, covering me fully.
I pushed myself out, wiping the ink off my body. "Kylie, where the heck did you get these?"
She shrugged and smiled innocently. "Magicians never reveal their secrets. But there is a catch with this. We have to win, more than ever! We NEED to win."
"You do realize we'd be cheating to win. You said you'd do this my way."
"And we are. But I think we need to go big."She seemed really determined about this plan. And stubborn. Really stubborn. Then come to think about it, maybe she's right. Maybe I'm making such a big deal about doing things the 'right' way. I mean why would I want to change things when they're perfectly fine. Besides, it's just once.
I let out a heavy sigh before slowly taking the weapon from her.
________
Part of me felt guilty about all this. But part of me knew I had no choice in this.
We easily passed through every pro player we've come across. Some may have rage quitted. Others seemed to be a good sport about it and shook our hands. Which made me feel even worse.
Eventually, we made it to the final rounds. Kylie and I stood at the platforms, waiting for the other team to arrive.
She must've noticed my hands shaking because she nudged me gently on the shoulder.
"Bro, don't worry. My friend knew this stage and gave us a little hand."
"What do you mean?" I asked her slowly.
She pointed to the ground where small lumps had formed.
"Those are hidden splat bombs. Just shoot them and we'll be safe!"
