Chapter Text
Your mom looked thin and broken. The ratty clothes they had given her were ill fitting and not at all what she'd wear. Her once beautiful hair full of knots and grease and sweat. What has he done to her?

You slowly approached the cot with calculated steps not wanting to startle her. She had one of her hand draped over her eyes. Was she sleeping? Was she hurt?

When you reached the side of the cot you kneeled on the hard ground and slowly set one of your hand on your mom's belly, as to what you would do as a child when you wanted something while she was sleeping. Your mom flinched and uncovered her eyes to see who it was when her eyes landed on you and they immediately filled with tears. So did your own.

"Hi mom." You tried to smile but it never reached your eyes. She just looked at you with disbelief in her eyes, without saying anything. You removed your hand from her stomach and moved back a little to give her a little space for her to sit up. She looked behind you, her eyes filling with fear the moment she made eye contact with John.

"Raven, my angel please get away from him" she started muttering in low voice but fast pace. "He's not the person you think he is, he'll hurt you badly." You were shocked and angry that these were the first thing she said to you after not seeing you for days. "Don't Touch My Daughter. You'll Hurt Her. She's not another of your whores!"

"MOM STOP. Don't act like you care, cause it wasn't even long ago I remember dad beating me to a pulp and you ignoring my fucking screams."

She looked down at you with her mouth agape in shock. "That is no way to talk to your mother, look what he's done to you. You're acting like a little brat." You scoffed harshly and looked back at John to see him angry yet amused.

"Come on little Raven that's enough." John started to walk towards you but you shook your head to stop him.

"Little Raven?" your mom scoffed sarcastically. "So this is who you choose to marry Raven? He's much older than you are and not the type to waste his time on a girl like you" She was whispering for you to hear only but you knew John would hear it too. "I'm just trying to protect you and your future. He is not the one Raven, Arcane is. The father said it himself."

"THAT'S ENOUGH FROM YOU SINNER. Seems like I haven't punished you enough Ms Anson. That's about to change very soon and I'll be there to experience every little pain you go through."

"You'll break my daughter brother John, your wrath and lust will break my innocent little girl." Her hand came up to your cheek and wiped the tear under your eyes. "Father Joseph knows it, brother Jacob knows it and deep down you must too. She doesn't deserve a life with you, let her be happy with who she is meant to be."

You felt sick to your stomach, not only from how John was threatening your mom but from your mom still trying to decide how you should live your life.

"I can choose who I want to be with and who I don't. Just because you had a miserable life doesn't mean you can make mine the same too." You sighed trying hard to compose yourself without breaking down. "Could I please have a private chat with my mom?"

"No darling, get up we're going..."

«John let her have a conversation privately.» the father's voice came through a speaker that was on the ceiling. John's eyes immediately changed from possessiveness to docile. With one last warning look towards your mother he left, closing the iron door behind him.

You looked at the speaker once more, this time noticing the little red light next to it, a small camera. You wanted this to be very private hopefully they won't be listening.
