After a steamy session of early morning sex, Jim and Carolynn fell asleep.

At 5 in the morning, Jim's communicator begins to beep.

"Tell me you're not answering that, Bubs." Carolynn groaned.

"Kirk here." Jim recieves.

Carolynn groans and pulls the sheet over her face.

"..be there on time, Sir. Kirk out." Jim says and hangs up.

"Who was that?" Carolynn asks removing the sheet.

"Your father." Jim replies and lays back down.

"Happy Birthday, Hun." Jim kisses her sweetly and gets off of the bed.

"Pike wants to see me." He says entering the bathroom.

Carolynn stomach drops thinking of all the possibilities, but she decides to keep it to herself.

"What if it's about the five year mission?" Jim says exiting the bathroom. His hair damp, a towel hanging low on his waist.

"We have got the newest ship anyway. That's deep space. Uncharted territory. Think how incredible that's gonna be." He adds without waiting for Carolynn's reply.

Carolynn couldn't help but smile at his excitement.

"I hope that's the case and nothing bad." She says and gets out of bed.

"Stay in, Babe. Take the day off. It's your birthday." Jim says and plants a kiss on her lips.

Carolynn gives in without a second thought and plops down on the edge of the bed, watching Jim wear his uniform.

"I'll see you at lunch?" Jim says.

"Lunch? Yes. After that? No." Carolynn says making Jim furrow his brows.

"Oh. I got dinner plans with a dashing Starfleet Admiral." Carolynn winks.

Jim chuckles. "Okay. See you." Jim pecks on her lips and leaves.

Carolynn gets even more uneasy, unable to shove the sickening feeling away.

**Time skip

"Dad?" Carolynn says over her communicator.

"Yes, Lyna?" Pike answers over comms.

"Do you know where James is? I mean, he probably is still with you. I just needed to know that if everything is fine."

"Darling, he is indeed here with me, but it's better Kirk talks to you himself. I..um..would have appreciated you being truthful when I asked you about the survey of Nibiru." Pike says.

Carolynn feels a knot in her stomach.

"It was Spock. Wasn't it? Shit. James? If you can hear me, please contact me as soon as you're free. Please. I'll see you tonight, Dad." Carolynn says and hangs up.

Location: A Bar. Time: Evening {time skip}

Carolynn enters the place and looks around for a certain blond hair guy and luckily finds him seated at the counter.

Jim didn't return home for lunch. Carolynn went back to her apartment soon after and dinner plans with her father were down the gutter too.

She walks up and places her right hand on his shoulder, taking a seat on his left side.

Jim clears his throat and gulps his drink down in one go.

"So you're not gonna say anything?" Jim finally speaks up.
