Abrham's POV:I entered the room where we've been working on the dimetrix for the past few years and as I was about to work on the BioBond, I bumped into a familiar person with a huge burn mark on their left eye. Demi-Leigh Rankin, also known as my son's murderer.
"Sire, I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going!" Demi-Leigh said frantically, I glared at them. They froze immediately. "Is that enough of an excuse for my son dying in that explosion you caused?!" I said furiously.
"It was an accident sire, I didn't know that I shouldn't mix those chemicals in with the formula." Demi-Leigh tries to defend themselves, I wasn't having any of it. "If it was an accident, then explain how you not only lost most of your sight in your left eye, but you also got two of your coworkers hospitalized for a few weeks due to the exposure, my daughter's arm being completely broken from the debris and needing said arm casted for a month and a half, and of course, my son getting second degree burns and dying from them in the hospital, while in my arms, later that night!!!" I shouted.
".- -... .-. .... .- -- --..-- / - .... . -.-- / - --- .-.. -.. / -.-- --- ..- / -- ..- .-.. - .. .--. .-.. . / - .. -- . ... / - .... .- - / - .... . / . -..- .--. .-.. --- ... .. --- -. / .-- .- ... / ..- -. .. -. - . -. - .. --- -. .- .-.. .-.-.-" I heard my brother, Jebodiah, communicate with me through Morse code.
"Jeb, were you the one that heard something explode and people screaming on the phone?! Were you the one who drove off a bridge because you were worried that your children were caught up in the explosion?! Were you the one whose son died in your arms after you sang him the same song that mother sang to you before she died?!" I replied. "No you weren't." After I said that, Demi-Leigh and Jebodiah both began to bombard me with their responses.
Demi-Leigh was talking about how they still have nightmares about the explosion, while Jebodiah keeps on trying to tell me that he understands my pain, but I have to move on and reconcile with Demi-Leigh. I could feel my demons lurking towards me. "Both of you, shut the fuck up!!!" I shouted as I pulled down the lever, causing Jebodiah to get shocked.
I turned my head towards Demi-Leigh, who is currently shaking in fear. "Demi-Leigh, you'll be organizing the documents in the northern side of the domeplex." I ordered. "And, if I find you screwing around in other parts of the domeplex and it ends up causing any kind of disaster, especially if my daughter gets killed in said disaster, I will literally destroy you!!!"
And with that, Demi-Leigh sprinted to the northern side as fast as they could. I could feel the tears forming in my eyes, I wiped as many of them that I can stop, but it wasn't enough. How can I move on from a tragedy such as losing my first child? Iris was not only the first child that I adopted, but he was also one of my lights in the dark.
Usually, teenagers who would become parents would have some sort of regretful reaction when they find out that they are going to raise a child, mostly on their own. But did I ever felt regret when I found out that there was a baby in the basket my ex-girlfriend sent me on the last day of my sophomore year in high school?
I was confused at first, since the documents that came with him didn't had a birth name for him. No first name, no middle name, and definitely no surname was given to him. I was looking at a book of baby names, which none of the names in said book interested me, when I saw something that resembled a comet fly near the domeplex.
That was when I thought of a great name for the baby. "I'll name you Iris, Iris Yutar Valentin." I said as I cradled him in my arms.
As time went on, Iris would cheer me up in one way or another. Whether it be a drawing he made or some flowers that he had picked with Jeb. Whenever Iris would have a nightmare, I would sing You are my sunshine to him because that's what he was in my eyes. A little ray of sunshine that is seen through the black storm clouds.
