Samarth went to Nana Ji as soon as he could and replayed everything that had happened with unusual fervor. Nana Ji kept looking at Samarth, the whole time he talked. When Samarth had finished, Nana Ji smiled delightedly.
"Very good, Samarth. You have done a great job." Saying this Nana Ji turned somber. "Though do not forget, Samarth, that it was only one day. Tomorrow again, if he shows up you must face him. Remember to keep your calm and not in any case act on your anger or fear. Show only...friendliness."
Samarth made a face. Being friends with Madhav was like walking into a nightmare.
"Samarth" Nana Ji cajoled.
"Yes, OK, fine."
"I know that look", Nana Ji sighed. "I know it is difficult and something you dislike—"
"—Hate or even loathe—"
"Do not interrupt in between. I know you came here, in hopes to celebrate and not hear a lecture. But your work is not over. You must face him again when he comes to bully you tomorrow or the next time, whenever that is." Nana Ji said.
"As if my fight and struggles ever end." Samarth's face fell.
"They, in reality, will never end, Samarth. But that is not to say we should lose hope. Samarth just keep going on and concentrate on your goal. No distractions, no 'give ups' or anything and you won't even realize you have reached your destination.
"Life is like a race, long and hard. There are many hurdles. But the winner is the only one who keeps going on, keeps running on the track of life, and never stops. They bypass every hurdle or adversary in the way. They are deeply concentrated on only one thing: their goal. And when they arrive first in that long race, which had been full of determined competitors, the joy is overwhelming and unadulterated.
"Life can be defined as many things: a raging fire, a long race, an adventure, a game, and infinitely many things. But it doesn't mean you don't have to enjoy it", Nana Ji added as Samarth's face fell." Enjoying every tiny moment life gives you is equally important. Enjoy every single moment. But don't let a particular way of enjoyment become your greatest distraction. After all, preparation for reaching your goal can be your greatest enjoyment, for you can only pursue your goals if you have an interest in them. In life, you can only be satisfied if your goal is something you wish for yourself. Remember that, Samarth."
