13. New Start

Roger was inside his office at the University, checking on students project reports on his computer, when he heard a quite knock on his door

"Come in..."

Roger said out loud, without even bothering to look up, Students were always coming up to him with their questions and queries

It wasn't until he heard an abrupt cough that he looked over the stacks of books to see Kerkerai Suthiluck standing infront of his desk

"Hey Key, nice to see you here, but What brings you all the way out to the university ??"

Kerkerai offered Roger his hand before taking a seat across the desk from him

"Do you have a few minutes to talk ??"

Roger has known him for thirty years and he doesn't remember, him ever asking if they could sit and talk. This must be a big deal for him

Pushing his work aside, Roger gave Kerkerai his full attention

"What's up, Key ??"

He distractedly pulled at his hairs on his nape, setting Roger's mind to worrying about what he has come to talk

"I want to talk with you about Kong"

Roger has been expecting this. Kerkerai was unfailingly protective of his only Son, and Roger knew trying to understand Kong's need to help Arthit has been a challenge for him

Roger nodded at Kerkerai, letting him know he was listening. He looked down at the floor for a moment before meeting Roger's eyes

"I'd like you to go to Viang Pha Mork with Kong "

The suddenness of his statement surprised Roger more than his actual words

"I don't know if...."

Kerkerai interrupted, his eyes and voice pleading

"Please, Roger. As someone who is like a brother to me, I'm asking you to do this for me. I know Kong would be furious if I tried to tag along, but you've got a rapport with Arthit and his mother. Your company would probably be more welcomed..."

Roger wasn't sure what he should say. He has grown quite fond of Arthit since he's been in his house, and Rose too, but he doesn't know if he would be comfortable tagging along on their journey back to home

Kerkerai realised that Roger was hesitant

"I just need to know he is safe there"

"Key, I've seen Rose's place. It's clean, it's safe, I think he'll like it there"

He looks unconvinced

"Roger, I don't know a lot about Arthit's mother. I trust your words and Kong's Decision, but still...I just...he's my kid, please just go with them...and stay for few days, till kong get settled there... please..."

How can he say no ??

Roger knows Kerkerai, and he wasn't one to ask favours, which told him he's more worried than he's letting on

"I'll see what I can do"

Roger told him

Kerkerai thanked him several times before leaving

Roger wasn't sure how he will broach the subject with Rose. Hopefully something will come on it's own

It was late at night when Roger finally get a chance to speak with Rose, Arthit and Kong were already asleep. Roger doesn't wanted to bother her when it looks like she was headed to bed. He let her take over his bedroom and he has been sleeping on the couch in his study these days
