31. Answers....

Roger has asked Rose.....

To marry him.....

And Rose was worried about Arthit's reaction to the news.

"How do you think we should tell Arthit ??"

Roger looks at Rose over the top of his reading glasses.

"I suppose the same way we did when we told him I was moving in here"

He lays down his paper and sets his glasses aside.

"Rose...... tell me what you are thinking about"

Rose sat beside him on a chair

"I am worried how Arthit will react"

She confessed.

"He was fine with us living together. I don’t see why he would have a problem with us getting married"

"I am worried he will think you are trying to replace his father.”

Roger puts his arm around Rose and pulled her closer to him.

"I don’t think Arthit will think like that. He knows we love each other and support each other. I truly believe he will be happy for us"

His words does little to calm her fretting mind, she was still worried,  her stomach knotting with uneasiness.

Roger turned her towards him, so she can see his face.

"Is this what you want, Rose ?? Please tell me.... We don’t have to get married right now, if you are not ready. It will change nothing about the way I feel for you. If it’s too soon or causes you too much worry then we will wait. My heart is committed to you, that’s the only part that matters to me"

Tears threatened to spill from her eyes.

"Of course I want to marry you. I am probably just overreacting.... overthinking, like I accuse Arthit of doing all the time, guess he must get that trait from me"

Roger’s soft laughter filled the room. Rose was feeling rather foolish after  watching Roger's calm demeanor.

"How about we try to talk to Arthit and Kong, tomorrow at dinner ?? They will both be there, so we can tell them at the same time"

I smile up at Roger, nodding at his suggestion.

At the Dinner table ------

"How’s your college going, Kong ??"

Rose asked, setting the salad on the table.

"Umm.... good. Real busy. It’s nice to have a night off from work tonight"

"You look tired, Son. Be careful not to push yourself too hard"

Kong smiled at her, promising he will try and rest more.

Dinner was quiet, Kong, Arthit and Roger all were absorbed in their plates, but Rose was pushing her food around the plate more than she was eating.

"I have something I want to share"

Rose paused her eyes on Arthit’s face and reached for Roger’s hand. Taking a deep breath, she continued......

"Roger and I have decided to get married"

There was a beat of silence before Kong spoke up,

"Wow..... that's wonderful.... Congratulations Roger and Rose"

Rose glanced at Kong for a moment, smiling, but it was Arthit’s reaction she was actually wanting for.

He got up slowly from his seat and came around the table until he was standing behind Rose and Roger's chairs, and in a move that surprised them both, he dropped to his knees and put his arms around each of them.
