26. Confusions.....

Kong was nervous about tonight, it’s been weeks since he has spoken to his Dad. But Kerkerai sounded apologetic when he called this morning, He asked Kong and Arthit to have dinner with him. Kong only hope it will end well.

Kong didn't wanted to bring Arthit at his dad's house, at least not without knowing his intentions, Arthit has already so much to deal with, Kong dosen't want to pressure him with any unnecessary burden.
So they agreed to meet at the restaurant in town.

The drive to the restaurant was silent, Arthit seemingly lost in his thoughts, as Kong was most certainly lost in his own.

Kerkerai, Charlie and Maria were already seated, when they arrive. Kong was happy to see Charlie and Maria, hopefully it will help to ease an awkward and tense situation.

Arthit and Kong settled across from his dad. After brief hellos, strained silence settles in, and Kong focused his attention on the menu in front of him.

Arthit squeezed his knee under the table. Kong appreciated his silent support more than he could ever tell him.

"How is everything going at the house ??"

Maria asked, breaking the heavy tension

"Good. We are staying busy. Rose started advertising in some travel magazines and business has really picked up. I have been encouraging her to start a website as well, expand her exposure"

"That sounds fantastic, Kong. Don’t you think so, Kerkerai ??"

Charlie asked, giving Kerkerai a pointed look.

"Sure"

Was his only response.

Kong refrained from rolling his eyes, despite the nearly irresistible urge to do so

'Way to really put yourself out there, Dad'

Another few minutes of agonizing silence the waiter comes to take their order, a small reprieve from the awkwardness.

"So…how’s work going, Dad ??"

Kong figured he has to try and get this ball rolling.

"Fine"

Kong felt like smacking his head against the table. He thought if his Dad was going to stick to one-word answers, sorry might be one of the words he would use.

Determined to get some kind of conversation going, Kong turned his attention to Maria and Charlie.

"How are you both doing ??"

Maria flashes Kerkerai a look of disappointment before turning her eyes on Kong

"Great. I love my new apartment, we just moved in together, but I am trying to adjust with Charlie's annoying habits"

Kong smiled at her answer

Arthit leans in, asking

"What’s funny ??"

"I will tell you later"

Kong whispered back

"Speaking of moving…how are things with Roger living in the house now ?? Everyone getting along ??"

Maria inquires

"We have all lived together before. Besides, I am living down in the cottage right now"

Kerkerai perked up at Kong's announcement, finally showing a real interest in the conversation.

"Trouble in paradise ??"
