Chapter 7-The aroma of stew and love

After a while, Audree sat next to me. "Hey, are you okay?" she asked. "Well, I'm as okay as one can be after receiving such life changing news." She laughed and said "well you'll get accustomed to it sooner or later. Chief said to start your training from tomorrow and me and Oscar oversee that. Since you seem to be ah...comfortable with us". I looked at her and asked "So...what did the chief say after I left?". "He just told us to help you as I said. I'll be your archery instructor and Oscar will be your sword fighting teacher, although I'm not as good with swords as he is, I know a few other weapons", she smiled smugly. "Hey, I had another question, before I found you, why were you guys climbing the tree in the first place? I mean you guys looked worn out the first I saw you."

She swallowed and said, "We were looking for this key you see, they say it leads to a 'door'. Inside this door there's a powerful object that might help us in the future. No matter, we can finish our quest after we defeat Maximus. Everyone who has gone there has never come back, we were sent by the tribe because they think we have the necessary skills for retrieving this object." "Why do you keep calling it 'this object', don't you know what it is?"

"As I said, nobody ever came back.... So, nobody knows what it is, But the most common theory is that it's some sort of gem. We don't know for sure, but we think it's that."

I stared at her in silence. Then, I finally said something, "So, where did you come from? I mean you're the only elf in this whole tribe. I was wondering why'. She gave me a cold stare for a moment, but she loosened up, smiled, and said "That's a story for another time." She got up and walked away. I stared at her until she blended with the crowd. There's a lot I need to know about Oscar and Audree. It was about 7:00 as far as my senses could tell, everyone was preparing for dinner near the communal fire.

The smell of fresh bread and stew wafted through the air, I realized I hadn't eaten since last night. I was so overcome with shock about my past that I totally forgot to have something to eat. I got up so quickly that I hit my head to one of the branches of the tree. 'ouch' I thought. Rubbing my forehead, I went to find Oscar, in the process I almost made a woman drop her pot full of water, I almost tripped and fell face first into the mud, which I was thankful have not to. I finally found him talking to Audree near the chief's house. He took her hand, and she gave him the brightest smile I've ever seen. They reminded me of the couple in my dream. Oh yes, they are a couple, I didn't even need to ask them about it because it was so obvious. I approached them and asked, "What's for dinner?". Audree quickly pulled her hand back from Oscar's grip, with a smirk on my face I said, "oh I'm sorry please continue". I walked away from there and went to go eat some dinner because they were already serving. It was delicious, I asked one of the guys next to me what the stew was made of, he said it was deer. I didn't care at this point; it was delicious, and I had 2 whole bowls of it and a whole loaf of bread.

A dude named Jeff passed me a pillow and a blanket in case I got cold. They had a separate tent put up for me. I went inside, it was quite cozy. I rested my head on the pillow which I learned was stuffed with griffin feathers. 'How the heck am I going to solve this problem. I mean I'm just a kid......a kid who has powers he doesn't know how to use. A kid who could help these people with those same powers.' The weariness came crashing down on me, my adrenaline rush was gone, and before I knew it, I was fast asleep, snoring away.
