I blinked and lowered my gaze and quietly sat there, controlling my breath and relaxing, While that red-haired girl introduced herself as Mia Mike.
She then smacked his bicep and told him to snap out as she said he was staring.
He cleared his throat and started, "I'm Erzik Daniel"
"I'm Mabet Rose Merry", I murmured and watched Jane coming back with our food. Her eyebrows knitted together in confusion, I shrugged.
Once she laid the lunch trays at the table, Mia smiled sweetly at her.
"Jane, my sweetheart"
"I know", she huffs and walks back."Why do you people treat her like that", I ask.
Mia raises her hands in surrender, "It's not like that, I swear, We're friends. Tell her you dork"
"What- you and Jane, nope not friends", he then picks a few fries from my tray and I watch him shoving them in his mouth.
I narrow my eyes at him, "Sorry but we are also not friends", I try to move my brunch out of his reach. He has stupid olive green eyes and those golden specks floating around are also ridiculous.
He smiles sheepishly, "Yea sorry bout that. Ok then I'll get going, see y'all around"
Mia gawks at him leaving as he slaps at the back of someone's head, flips someone's ear and pulls back someone's chair before them sitting.
I shake my head, what's with this man. Wasn't he a good cop or something, now he's at school screwing around?
Now Jane was back with Mia's tray. Avocado and chicken salad, Banana smoothie and melon yogurt.
"He's so into you", Mia shrieked.
"Who", Jane asked in my stead.
"That dork of course", Mia rolled her eyes and leaned her head on Jane's bony shoulder.
I did not understand.
"Weren't you two just together, having a good time", I tried to conceal it as much as I could.
"Oh no- no you silly, we like to mess around. Nothing serious. Just blowing the steam off-"
I interrupted, "Ok it's ok. No need to tell me. I'm just here to study and that's all", I smile tightly at her. Silence falls at our table. They both look at me with wide eyes and gaping mouths.
"I think she did not see him properly", Jane whispered-talked. Mia frantically nodded.
"Girls here would give their freaking properties just to have a loving glance from him", She shakes her head and said while munching on her salad.
"Whatever", I nibble on the mayo-mustard dripping sandwich.
They both share a look and dive into their foods. I pick at my fries and think about everything happening.
'Why Erzik is here'
'Why mum asked for extra classes"Oi Rose, I heard you punched Nylie", Mia almost jumping out of the chair asks excitedly.
"So that giant pile of trash is Nylie"
"You punched Derek's sister, Oh my fuckin mama, I'm so proud of you Rose Merry"
"It's Mabet", I try to clear.
"From this day on you are my soul sister", She gushes and stands on the table. She stomps her boots and claps to get their attention.
"People, we got a fighter on our hands", She says while pointing at me.
"The girl who punched Nylie, The girl who stood for Jane, a round of applause please", Mia smiles and the whole cafeteria vibrates with applause and cheers.
"Thank you for giving me a headache. I hate attention", I clench my fists and get out of the cafeteria, While the students stomp on the floor and cheer.
Not even half of the day had passed and I wanted to die.
I groan and fish out the schedule. Jane was to take me to classes but now she was nowhere to see as I had lost her.
It's ok I can find my own. I'm not a child who needs someone's guide.
"History. Room C", I mutter and look around. There was no room C. All the rooms were numbered numerically.
I stare again at the schedule and notice the third floor mentioned right next to Room C. Why the frick I didn't see it before. I mentally kick myself and throw my brain off the hill.
Bell rings and with a sea of students, I'm pushed upstairs. From first to second and then a petite girl with pigtails asks, "Are you Mabet?"
"Yep", the 'up pops.
"Looking for History class?"
"Yeah", I say with knitting eyebrows.
"We are in the same classes. I saw you in Mr Cameron class as well", She grins and a chipped tooth shows.I smile.
"Let's head together", She says pushing her glasses up.
"Sure", I say smilingly. As we reach the third floor, she grabs my hand. "History class is on the fourth floor, Brigadier directed us a week ago"
She practically drags me upstairs.
"Girl, stop, would you", I say sternly and try to halt in the tracks but it was no use as she ignores my cries and did not stop. Instead, her nails dig into my skin.
"I'm sorry, you have to go, please", she says in a timid voice.
I huff in annoyance and thought to fuck whatever is about to come.
"Fine", I say infuriated.
"You aren't going anywhere", A deep voice rumbles behind me, gripping my free arm.
Warm fingers firmly grabbing my other wrist. I look from his heavy hand to his tanned wrist and leaned but muscular build to his thick neck, slightly full lips, high nose and caramel brown eyes, his long hair sitting proudly on his forehead and shoulders.
I try to yank my hand away.
"I said you are not going"
"And who the hell are you to tell me that", I said through gritted teeth as his firm grip tightened.
For help, I look back to the pigtailed girl who was nowhere to be seen. I huff.
"Let me go sir", I say sternly.
"No", he says while stepping forward.I see him nearing and I take a step back. He saunters nearer and I keep going back until my back touches the wall. He leans his arm on the wall and cages me there.
"Don't go", he says watching me. I couldn't help but stare in his caramel brown eyes and at his slowly parting lips.
