There are so many things I’d like to do
Someday, if I had time.
I’d climb a mountain, swim in a river,
Be guilty of a crime.
I think I’d like to live the life
Of driftwood in the sea.
Never knowing what the next current
Might bring for me.
For when you get the very core
Of what living is,
You realise you don’t need the glamour
You only need the risk.
And when the meaning is there, naked,
Stripped bare for all to see.
Maybe people will realise
That they are, in fact, free.
I could, quite easily in fact,
Abandon all that’s dear
And run away, and live out life,
Without responsibilities or fear.
We must feel bound, attached somehow,
To our family and friends.
Elsewise I feel many of us
Would run to the world’s ends.
I’d like to go, far, far away,
Without alerting anyone,
And I’d forget my former life,
I’d just live and laugh and run.
There are so many things I’d like to do
Someday, if I had time.
I’d climb a mountain, swim in a river,
Be guilty of a crime.
