The bird perches in the jarrah tree
Watching the humans below.
He cocks his head to the side in amusement
As the smallest one steals a marshmallow.
The kookaburra doesn’t know these creatures
Are called humans;
He calls them “ha has”
Because they make him laugh
With their odd antics.
Ha has are such stupid creatures,
thought the kookaburra to himself.
They jump and flap their wings
Like they were birds
But I’ve never seen a ha ha fly.
Ha has cooked their food on big black rocks
That had fire underneath
And at night they went into soft green caves.
This made the kookaburra
Laugh
And when the kookaburra laughed,
The ha has did too.
Even though they were stupid,
the kookaburra missed the ha has
When they folded up the soft green caves
And took away the food the kookaburra would take.
The kookaburra missed the ha has
Because they
had made him
Laugh.
