Ignorance and Innocence

39 3 3

Ignorance makes you innocent

It protects you from the truth;

It turns the wise to stupid

And the elderly to youth.

It shields your eyes from hurtful sights,

From things you don’t want to see

Ignorance gives you special glasses

That only see what you need.

Ignorance mutes your ears from hearing

Anything they don’t want to hear

“Ignorance is bliss” – they say

No, ignorance is fear.

Fear of the knowledge that could change our ways,

Fear of the acceptance we are wrong.

Fear that acceptance will mean we have to change

From the things we are comfortable with.

Ignorance and innocence go hand-in-hand

As they walk down the street together

And they’ll walk down the street of Bliss

Hand-in-hand, forever.
