"hey ... what's up?" ricky awkwardly said into the phone. he heard lily start her car and finally drive off. the boy made his way to the front door and quickly locked the door, just in case. nini could hear shuffling through the phone and scrunched her eyebrows together.

"sorry, is this a bad time to be calling you?" nini nervously said into the phone. she leaned back into her chair and fidgeted with her pencil, "or is it like weird to be calling you? i know we just talked today so i'm sorry if i'm like bothering you—"

"nini," ricky softly said after a short chuckle, "you're fine, you're not bothering me."

a small smile formed on nini's lips and the girl nodded her head, "uh, good. great," the girl stammered out. ricky laughed and laid down on his couch while he rested his phone on his chest. nini noticed how quiet ricky was again and pulled the phone closer to her ear, "hey, is everything okay?"

ricky smiled at nini's soft voice and kindness. the boy let out a sigh, "uh .. i don't know? things feel pretty weird right now... i kinda just got into a huge fight with lily so.."

nini's mouth fell open from shock, "oh wow, i'm sorry. i guess i kinda called you at a bad time then," the girl apologized as she scratched the back of her head, "uh then this can wait till tomorrow morning, you should probably get off the phone with me and fix things with lily before they get worse."

ricky shook his head , "uh.. no it's okay."

"ricky, come on," nini encouraged the boy even though it was the last thing she wanted to do, "you know it's the right thing to do."

"neens, we uh.. we kinda broke up," ricky finally revealed. nini quickly sat up in her chair as ricky continued, "i lowkey just kicked her out of my house..."

"oh my god???"

"yeah..."

"ricky, i-i'm so sorry...??"

"it's okay... "

"that's terrible," nini exclaimed as a small smile formed on her lips. the girl quickly covered her mouth as she realized how terrible she was being but she couldn't help herself from feeling excited.

"if i'm being honest, it was bound to happen at some point," nini heard ricky say over the phone which caused her to smile even more under her hand.

"oh.. that's real sad to hear," nini lied, "it seemed like you really loved her."

the boy cringed from those words coming out of nini's mouth but tried to shake it off as best as he can, "uh ... well you know things happen — people change."

"right," was all nini could say as the redness filled her cheeks. the girl started to fidget with her pencil again as she built up the courage to ask ricky a question, "so uh... why'd you guys break up — if you don't mind me asking..."

ricky stared up into his ceiling as he tried to come up with an excuse. he couldn't tell nini that lily and him broke up because of her. nini nervously waited on the other line as she realized how quiet ricky got. the girl started to regret even asking the question and just as she was about to end the phone call — ricky spoke up, "lily was just trying to take advantage of me, i guess? she wasn't not my manager but tried to act like it just because she was my girlfriend. she kept crossing the line and i just didn't want her to walk all over me again. we tried to talk things out but got into a really bad, messy fight... so yeah. now we're broken up."

"wow... not very girlboss of her."

ricky scrunched his eyebrows together and brought the phone closer to him, "wait what?"
