"need some help?" ricky asks nini as he sticks his hand out for her. the couple decided to drive to downtown la and climb the fire escapes again. nini let out a smile and happily took ricky's hand. the boy pulled his girlfriend up and they both made their way to the rooftop.

nini patted her hands on her legs and gave ricky a smile, "that never got easier," the girl chuckled as she followed ricky to the edge.

they both sat down as their eyes scanned the cityscape below them. ricky looked at nini with a smile and cleared his throat. the boy was nervous and it was very obvious to the girl.

"what's up with you bowen?"

"i'm just admiring you, that's all."

"you look like you've seen a ghost."

ricky shrugged his shoulders, "downtown la and we're on a roof. wouldn't be too shocking."

the girl nudged ricky with her elbow and scooted closer to him, "whaaat... tell me."

"i just... i got you something," ricky nervously said as he brought out two little boxes, "well i guess, i got you some things..."

nini's jaw dropped and her eyes lit up. the boy passed the two little boxes towards nini, gleaming his smile at her, "ricky..." nini softly said in awe.

"open them up."

nini took in a deep breath and opened up the first little box. she picked up the charm to see it was a tiny grammy. nini let out a chuckle and dangled the charm in front of her eyes.

"but i didn't win yet," the girl told ricky. the boy shrugged his shoulders and grabbed the charm bracelet out of his pocket. he gently grabbed nini's wrist and wrapped it around her arm.

"notice how you said 'yet'," the boy pointed out, "you're gonna win. we all know you will."

nini let out a smile as she looked at ricky with admiration, "this is so sweet. thank you, ricky."

"and that's the last time we're switching with that charm bracelet. it's yours. keep it on yourself, please," ricky chuckled. the girl nodded her head and grabbed the second small box from ricky's hands.

the girl opened up the little box and saw yet another charm. it was a heart locket. she looked back up at ricky with confusion, "another locket," the girl chuckled. ricky helped her add it to her bracelet.

"yes, but open it up," the boy commanded. nini grabbed the locket and opened the heart up.

she felt her heart stop as she saw a tiny picture of her moms inside. the girl gently held the locket tighter as her eyes started to water up. it was an old picture of her moms. they had to be about the same age as ricky and nini in the picture.

"ricky..." was the only thing the girl could say. she looked up at ricky as he looked at her with love and sympathy. she only pulled him into a tight hug as her body relaxed into his.

ricky wrapped his arms around the girl's body and pulled her in closer. he rubbed nini's back up and down to comfort her. she finally pulled away and looked at ricky with amazement.

"and you know, since you wear this charm bracelet on your left hand.. technically your moms are always connected to your heart," the boy softly pointed out, "emotionally and now ... physically."

the girl only brought her lips up to his forehead and planted a small kiss there, "this is the best gift i've ever gotten..." nini softly told him, "i love it so much. i love you so much... thank you."

ricky answered by planting a soft kiss on her lips. the girl smiled into the kiss before he pulled away. the girl wiped her eyes and chuckled as she tried to compose herself.

"ugh, okay i got you a gift too," nini announced, catching ricky off guard. the boy raised an eyebrow and let out a nervous chuckle.

"you did?"

"i did."

"so we both randomly bought each other gifts?"

"i guess so," nini chuckled as she brought the box out of her purse. she placed it in ricky's hands with a nervous chuckle, "i hope you like it.."

"no, i'll hate it," ricky teased, making nini roll her eyes. the boy quickly kissed her cheek before proceeding to unwrap the box, "i'm guessing it's a half eaten donut."

"it wouldn't fit in there," nini joked back, "i tried that already."

ricky started to laugh but the girl only nudged him harder, "open it up already!!"

"alright, alright," ricky answered, realizing how easily distracted he got. he took a deep breath before finally opening up his gift.

when the boy finally opened up the box, he saw a necklace inside. it was in the shape of a guitar pick and it was silver. the boy brought the necklace up to his eyes and looked at nini with astonishment.

"this is so cool, nini. what the hell?" the boy gleamed as he wrapped it around his neck, "you think it'll actually work on my guitar?"

he twirled the guitar pick around his fingers as it sat around his neck. nini slowly brought her hands up to the guitar pick, stopping ricky's hands.

the boy looked at her with confusion but focused back down on the necklace again. the girl slowly opened up the guitar pick, revealing an old picture of ricky and gracie.

a soft smile emerged from ricky's face as he took the necklace back into his hands. nini noticed ricky's eyes start to get red and soon enough, a tear fell from his cheek.

"where'd you... where'd you get the picture from?"

"i asked your parents for one a couple of weeks ago..." the girl softly said while ricky admired the necklace even more. she heard him start sniffling and looked up at his eyes. the boy was in awe of the picture and held it tight in his hands.

"now gracie's always close to your heart too," nini pointed out. ricky broke out into a huge smile and grabbed nini's hands. he brought them close to his lips as he planted a million small kisses all over her hands.

"thank you... i love it so much," ricky thanked nini, "i just know how much gracie would love you."

"ahh.. thanks," nini awkwardly said as her cheeks reddened. the boy shook his head.

"i'm serious, neens. without you, i probably wouldn't even be here anymore," ricky told the girl in a serious voice, "you saved my life...you're my angel."

"ricky..." the girl softly said as her heart warmed up.

"i was serious about what i said the other night," ricky softly told her, "i know it sounds crazy and everything but i do— and i know this might sound too soon or something but i don't know i just—"

"—no, me too," nini softly told the boy, "i wanna spend the rest of my life with you too."
