"Three days! You've been gone three days and you act as if it's nothing!" Lena said hysterically, as she put her hair in an elaborate braided updo. The dark braids made him think of Edith.

"Its over. I'm back, okay? And now I'll meet the mayor's daughter, and this whole ordeal will be over."

Lena gave a sarcastic laugh. "The Mayor is convinced you intentionally disappeared!"

"Maybe I did." He muttered. "How do you know I'm not already engaged?"

Lena stopped and stared at David and studied his face. "Are you?"

David thought quickly. If he claimed he was, then he wouldn't have to marry some girl he didn't know. But then again, Edith did kick him out.

"No." He replied lamely. Somewhere in town, a bell chimed eight times.

"Let's go. We have to be at the Justice hall by nine for dinner." Lena said, opening the door to leave.
