Kenzie's POV

I open the door to see Maddie.

"Are you ok? I saw you and Kendall crying," Maddie questions.

"Are you kidding? What world were you in while that was happening, Maddie?" I reply.

"Yeah, I guess I'm just used to it," Maddie shrugs.

"That's ridiculous, how do you not feel bad?" I exclaim.

"I do, you know. I just have to hide it. In fact I feel terrible, I hate it, but I don't know what to do," Maddie answers.

"Maddie? Can I trust you to keep a secret?" I ask.

"I mean, it depends on the secret, Kenz. If you're in danger I'll obviously help you," she responds.

"What if I knew about a way for all of this to end?" I hint.

"You do? Kenzie, you have to tell me, I'll do anything and I won't tell Mom," Maddie rambles.

"You promise?" I question.

"I promise," she replies.

"Jorja secretly filmed what just happened. I don't know what she's going to do with it, but I know that it's our ticket out of here," I explain.

"Wait, that's so smart. A video ended this last time, why wouldn't it this time?" Maddie compliments. Suddenly my phone starts ringing. I pick it up to see Jorja calling.

"Hey, you got the video?" I ask.

"I'm outside, love. Along with CPS," she tells me.

"What?! How did you get them here so quick?" I question.

"I didn't. They came for that check they were going to do after Kalani told the school," Jorja answered. Maddie and I run out to the balcony to see CPS walking up to the door. We run back inside and down the stairs to see Mom and Ethan with shocked faces standing at the open door.

"No, that's fake. Look, here's my girls, they'll tell you it's fake. Right, Maddie? Kenz?" Mom nervously laughs.

"I'm done, Mom. Enough with the lies. What you're doing is hurting people. And I can't stand it anymore. You need to pay the price you deserve for what you've done," Maddie tells her.

"Maddie!" Mom exclaims. Maddie pushes past her and walks out the door as I stand there in shock. Of all people, I never expected Maddie to be the one to say that.

"Ms. Miller, you need to come with us. And you, too." They grab Mom and Ethan and drag them out of the house. Jorja rushes in and sweeps me up in a big hug.

"Are you okay? I'm so sorry we took so long," Jorja gushes.

"I'm fine, the one we should be worrying about is Kalani," I answer. She nods and we run up the stairs to find Kalani. I open the door to her room and see her shivering in the corner with her eyes squeezed shut.

"Kalani, you okay?" I ask.

"I didn't call them, I promise, please don't hurt me!" Kalani exclaims.

"No, honey. They've been taken away. Don't worry, no one is going to hurt you," Jorja explains. Kalani opens her eyes and sees us standing there and tries to get up, but she is so weak that she falls. We walk over to her and help her up. A CPS worker comes in behind us.

"This is the one that has the worst injuries? We need to get her to hospital," he gestures. We help Kalani downstairs and into an ambulance.

"I'll go with her, you stay here. James is on his way," Jorja instructs. I nod and step away as she climbs into the vehicle and it drives off. I turn around to see Maddie crying and Kendall talking to a CPS worker. I run over to Maddie and hug her.

"Mads, what's wrong?" I question.

"I-I-I just feel like I let every-everyone down. I'm so sorry Kenz, don't hate me," she sobs.

"Maddie, I could never hate you. It's not your fault you were thrown into this situation. You just wanted to be accepted. I love you, and that will never change," I affirm.

"I love you too, Kenz," she cries.

Oh my god. It has been so long, i know. I'm not gonna make excuses for myself, I did just leave and left the story unfinished, but here I am 2 years later trying to end this so I can stop making myself feel guilty about never finishing it. Truth be told, I just started not knowing what to do, then I got distracted and forgot about it, and more recently, I just couldn't be bothered.

You may notice a change in the way I write, because obviously, it's been some time and my writing has changed a bit, but I'm trying to write in the same kind of style.

I'm gonna stop writing an essay now, but thank you so much for reading this because if you are here, that means you remember this story and are excited for the end. I am currently working on the next chapter and I promise I will post it soon. Next chapter will also be the last.

Thank you so much for everything,

Steph xo
