Damien's POV:

The sound of her low laughter and gentle words travelled to my ear as she walked my direction.

I looked up from the work I was being shown by one of the men that worked at the top floor, finding Gabriel besides her with Jarred on her left. His full attention on her whilst he handed the coffees in his hand.

Bitterness covered my tongue at the sight of the man who could make her laugh. The way her face glowed handing everyone their coffee. Athena looked too happy doing this that it slightly irritated me.

"I got a date" she squealed on the grass, excitement oozing out of her. Her feet began tapping on the floor unable to hold the outburst.

"You did?" I muttered picking lines of grass using that as a distraction. I wasn't in the mood to talk about her love life, or any upcoming dates she had in mind.

"Yes!" the word gushing out "we met at work, he came in for coffee and ended up leaving with my phone number" ending her words with a smug look.

"When do you work?" my brows arched up. We would tell each other most things yet she never mentioned working.

Athena rose both her shoulders " I didn't think it was important, anyways back to my date-"

"Of course it is" I barged in before she could continue "I would have come while you worked"

She shook her head "if it bothers you that much I work in a small cafe near town. It's called 'coffee express'"

"That's not very interesting" I commented feeling her hand slightly push me to the side. A playful smile danced on her beautiful face.

"That's not the point-"

"Seems like it"

"Damien!" She groaned falling back on to her back. I copied her, feeling the tips of the grass through my shirt while we did her favourite thing. Watch the stars above us.

"I'm scared" Athena whispered. Her face moulding from happiness to uncertainty.

I picked up the hand that rested on her side. Trying my best to give her the slightest reassurance. True a small piece inside of me roared at the idea of her going on another date with another man that wasn't me. But I had no right to stop her. She had to live her life to her own accord.

"Don't be" I encourage placing her hand on my chest "he'd be a fool not to like you"

Present

"Athena" I commanded her to come to me.

The annoyance I felt hadn't felt my body. The sight of seeing her at peace when she's around any one but tense when I'm around rubbed a different way.

Her shallow footsteps made there was towards me. With a cup in one hand and a brown paper bag in another, she extended her arm handing them over towards me "is there anything else you'd like me to do now" she mocked.

"There is one" a moment pause "stay away from jarred".

Athena's POV:

The moment he closed his mouth, finished from speaking, I wanted to laugh at his insinuation. The thought that Damien had of me liking jarred was completely delusional.

For one thing jarred was gay and had a boyish crush on Gabriel. I had figured it out one day when I was sent to collect the accounting books. Gabriel had come along with me because it was Damiens order. When jarred looked at Gabriel his face would always bloom a reddish colour and out of instinct he would flirt with who ever was in front of him.

I couldn't stop the grin from forming on my face. How Damiens face scrunched together with jealously made me want to tease him more.

"I can't do that" I clipped at him "he's the only friend I have here"

"You're not supposed to have friends here. You come here to work not form friendships" he consorted back, his hands folding together above his chest.

"That's no fun" I pouted.

The sound of footsteps echoed from behind us and a familiar figure placed himself besides me "is there anything else you'd like me to do" jarred asked being the generous person he is. Even if the only reason he came with me was because of Gabriel.

"I assume you've filled in the blanks on the sheet I sent to you" Damien spoke in for me.

"No not yet-" jarred tried to speak.

"And... you just thought they would fill in by themselves with you being here?"

"No-"

Damien nodded "I suggest you go now before you lose the seat you're in"

Jarred's face fell blank. The feeling of his job slowly fading away from him lay visible for everyone.

He nodded at his boss and slowly turned to face me "we can meet up later?" Jarred asked and I gave him a simple okay before he sped Of to save his job.

Damien looked grimly at jarred as he walked towards the elevator and I had to hold my breath from letting out a laugh.

"My office" he announced to me without even looking my direction and made his way to the double doors expecting me to follow after him.

We entered the room and I closed the door behind us. The sound of silence covered each surface as we stared at each other.

"I need you to work late" breaking the quietness we created.

My mind instantly froze. Today I couldn't say in late. I had promised Sophia I would be home before she went to sleep. It was also my fathers birthday I'd promised him I'd would most definitely be there.

"I can't" I began to protest "today's my dads birthday I told him I'd be there"

"It's Andrew's birthday?" He questioned.

I nodded "yes, if you could email me the work needed I could do it before tomorrow".

"Will jarred be there?" Completely ignoring my compromise.

"Does it matter? I just need you to know I can't make it today" tried to hold back an eye roll.

"Okay" he stopped himself for a moment "I'll join you as well".
