Athena's POV:

His arms felt so warm wrapped around my shoulders. I'd almost forgotten what it felt like to be held like this.

It wasn't my intention for him to see me like this. Nor was it my intention to let him hug me.

But the moment I saw him. Those grey eyes the same colour as hers, I couldn't help but break down. She was nowhere and everywhere at the same time when I'm near him.

"Athena" I heard his low whisper but wasn't ready to let go of this moment.

One chance.

One chance is all I want to be with the man I used to love. To hold him for a moment until I'm finally ready to let him go.

But moments like this never last forever.

"Athena, are you alright" Damien said ripping our bodies apart.

It didn't feel right, none of it did and it was all because of me.

I looked up from the floor trying to align my gaze with his "everything is fine" I whispered more than I spoke.

Damien let out a sigh " what's the matter?" He questioned raising a concerned brow. Until they both rose with worry " is something wrong with you? Is it your father?"

"No...no" I shook my head "everything's fine" giving him a too weak smile. "I think I should get back to work"

He stood for a while absorbing the moment we both faced before he answered "right" he said nodding to himself.

Damien turned around to walk away only to stand a couple feet apart. He movement stopped for a sudden moment.

"Athena...." My name Floated towards my ear. But nothing came afterwards.

"I'll be at my desk" I wearingly smiled and began my walk back.

Damien POV:

I watched Athena make her way back to her desk. The look of distraught on her face wouldn't seem to leave my mind.

What was going on? All I wanted to do was rip her mind open so I could see what ran through it. I wanted to know all her secrets, what was she hiding, why did she run away?

Making my way back to my office I tried to focus on something else besides her, besides what I have done.

The phone besides my desk began to ring, I tried my best to ignore it. I had no intention of answering it.

It kept going and going until finally it stopped.

Suddenly a knock echoed through the door and my body unconsciously shot itself up straight. My mind could only think about Athena and hoping it would be her on the other side, I replied to that knock.

"Come in" I said grabbing any piece of paper to show that I was 'busy'

"Mr Fitzgerald" that voice said and in an instant that little hope in my heart died.

"What is it Gabriel" I sighed looking up to meet his green gaze.

"Mr grey wants a word with you" he cleared his throat.

My eyes inwardly rolled "tell him that I'm busy and to please make an appointment with my assistant"

"But he's waiting for you"

My head shot towards Gabriel " he's here already?"

He gave me a confident nod "what would you like me to do"

"Bring him in".

Moments later the door flew open and a beer bellied man came walking with someone who seemed to be his lawyer?

"Mr Fitzgerald" he beamed clasping his hands together as he made his way to a chair "I think congratulations are in order"

My eyes drooped meeting his stare. This really wasn't the time or place for this.

"I don't think it's an appropriate time to discuss this" I grumbled returning to the pile of work in front of me .

"Ha ha but it's always a good time to celebrate your engagement to my daughter" Mr grey yelled louder then I had liked him too.

The papers in my hands began to scrunch. This wasn't the time nor was it the place to ever discuss my actions.

What I did was done out of anger. I never intended on agreeing to propose to Mr greys daughter. It was all done out of spite and hate.

I thought if I had did this then it would somehow lead me closer to Athena. But now I only realised it was pushing her farther away.

"Damien" I heard my name.

I looked up to find Mr grey sitting waiting for my answer.

Clearly my throat I spoke up "I think we should keep this matter private between us for a couple of months while we sort something out" I said waving my hands about.

"But why should we wait" he stood up placing this sausage hands on my desk "this is what both families want"

"And I understand that sir, but I have other things to prioritise first and this engagement isn't one of them"

"WHY you-"

A knock appeared from the door and both our heads instantly whipped to that knock.

"Come in" I sighed.

The door slowly opened inviting her inside. Her head remained pointing down at the floor while she spoke. "Mr Fitzgerald is waiting in the lobby" she almost whispered.

I wanted Athena to look up. I wanted to see those eyes, to see if she was alright. But she never looked.

"Bring him in"

Aleena gave a gentle nod before closing the door behind her.

Not a second later my father walked in. His back straight whilst he observed the scene in front of him.

"Mr grey, what a pleasant surprise" my father said plainly making his way to one of the chairs in front of my desk.

"And who is this friend you brought with you" raising a grey brow.

"Mr Fitzgerald so I've taken you've heard the news, this is my lawyer" he smiled.

"Indeed, I would like a moment to speak with my son" my father turned to look at me.

"Of course, of course" Mr grey nodded making his way to the door, his lawyer trailing after him.

Once we heard the clicked of the door my father spoke.

"You need to marry that girl as fast as possible".
