Another text from Janice, "how long does it take you to shop kid?"

I was confused until I checked the time, Dylan and I had been talking for hours. We had actually gotten to know each other pretty well. We realized that we used to sit together in the eighth grade, it was odd it took us so long to remember that since we practically said talked to each other everyday at school, but after we got to high school we stopped talking. He just looked extremely different. He has grown a lot. After realizing who he was I remembered the huge crush I used to have on him. I never told him about it though, the feelings have faded.

"What's wrong?" He asked pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Oh nothing, it's just my mom. She's wondering where I'm at." I said.

"Well I should let you get going then, huh?" He said.

"Probably" I said slightly disappointed.

"Well here take my numb-" He was cut off by the sound of some girl calling out his name.

"Dylan! There you are! I've been looking everywhere, oh, who's this?" The blonde girl asked.

"This is Aubrey, I was helping her out." He said gesturing to me. I gave him a confused look.

"Oh I'm sorry, Aubrey this is Delilah, my uh..my girlfriend." Those words felt unsettling for some reason. A girlfriend. Of course this kid had a beautiful girlfriend. Of course she looked like Barbie.

"Yes I am" Delilah smiled.

"Oh nice to meet you, sorry to run but I..um, I'm gonna go now, my moms waiting for me." I said forced a smile.

I started walking away when Dylan yelled.

"Aubrey wait!" He ran up to me.

"What?" I asked.

"I just-" I cut him off.

"You just what?" I was anxious to know what he had to say.

He grabbed my phone. "What are you doing Dylan?" He didn't say anything.

He handed my phone back to me and walked away. I ignored the fact that he just took my phone then gave it back because I was a little shaken up and had to get going, but mostly because it was really weird. I called my mom so we could leave.

* * *

My mother and I walked in the front door and I walked straight up to my room.

I couldn't stop thinking about that boy with the big brown eyes. We had known each other for a long time. We talked for hours and hours and I felt like he was my best friend again. We were kind of close before. I wanted to see him again. I realized I probably never would because I didn't get his number.

Then I remembered, he was going to give me his number then his girlfriend found him. If only she wouldn't have- Wait! What was he doing on my phone? I quickly went to check my phone, clicked on contacts and scrolled, and there it was. He put his number in phone. I started smiling uncontrollably. I couldn't stop. That was slick Dylan. I couldn't stop smiling. He was cute. Should I call him? I was getting ready to click the green call button when my mom knocked on the door.

"Come in." I said.

She opened the door, "So kiddo, you were shopping for over 3 hours, where's all of your clothes?" She asked.

I smiled and held up my book.

"You didn't buy any clothes?" She laughed.

"No, I didn't think it was a big deal. I can always go back out tomorrow." I laughed with her.

She looked shocked. "You're gonna go back to the mall tomorrow? Without me forcing you to?" She asked.

"Well yeah. I'm gonna start going out more, I don't want to stay in my room for my whole summer" I replied.

I was lying. I only wanted to go back to the mall tomorrow so I could ask Dylan to meet me there. If I didn't meet him, I would gladly stay in my room for the rest of my summer.

"Okay then kid. I'll leave you be to night then" she smiled.

My mom looked happy. She closed my door and went back downstairs. As soon as she left my room I grabbed my phone again and called Dylan. It was ringing.

"Hi Aubrey." Answered Dylan.

"You're really slick you know that?" I replied while that uncontrollable smile broke out again.

"I do." He said.

I could tell he was smiling over the phone.

"So Aubrey, can we meet up again tomorrow?" He asked.

"Yeah, that would be nice." I replied.

He laughed. "Okay. Do you wanna come to my house?" He asked.

"I would like that." I said still uncontrollably smiling.

It was hard to speak while smiling that hard. "Text me your address and I'll be over tomorrow." I said.

"Okay. Goodnight Aubrey." He said.

"Goodnight Dylan." I hung up the phone.
