I woke up on the giant rock. I had almost forgotten I was here. It's now dark out, and even more beautiful. I looked beside me and Dylan was also asleep. I was just about to wake him when my phone started ringing. It was mom.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Where are you? You said you would be back before dark."
"I know I'm sorry, I uh.. I'm at Ambers house. I was gonna sleep here if that's alright?"
"Yeah that's fine. Just let me know next time. Love you.
"Love you, bye". I hung up the phone and looked at Dylan who was now awake and staring at me.
"What?" I laughed.
"You're sleeping at Ambers?" He asked.
"No but I'm not sleeping at home. I planned on staying here to night."
"Why? it's so cold." He asked.
"Well I didn't plan on it actually being this cold." I laughed.
"Sleep at my house." He smiled.
"Really?" I questioned.
"Yeah it'll be nice. We can watch movies all night and eat ice cream, isn't that what people do after breakups?" He laughed. I could tell he was sarcastic. "No but really."
"Okay. Let's go now cause it's getting cold." I said.
We packed up the car and headed off. The car ride to his house was odd. It was quiet, but not the awkward kind of quiet, more like the nice peaceful kind.
We finally arrived and as soon as we got into his house I laid on his couch. "Welcome home." He laughed as he shut the door.
"Aren't you glad you chose to sleep in a house instead of the cold wilderness to night?" He said.
I started laughing so much. Something about him just made me that way. He just made me happy. "Yes I am, but I'm still recovering from falling asleep in the freezing cold with a tank top on." I laughed more.
"Oh here let me get you a shirt." He replied.
I opened my mouth to tell him he didn't have to but before I could he already ran off. He came back with a navy blue long sleeved t shirt.
"Is that yours?" I asked.
"Well yeah" he smiled and handed it to me.
"Thanks." I said while turning around to change my shirt.
"Don't look." I told him.
I took my shirt off and started putting on the big blue sweater like shirt when I caught him looking for a quick second. I put the rest of the shirt on and turned.
"Didn't I say not to look?" I laughed.
"I didn't see anything I'm, I'm sorry." He laughed more.
We both sat on the couch simultaneously, our shoulders touching. I brought my knees up to my chest and leaned against him.
"So what happened between you and Delilah?" I asked.
"Well she dumped me" He chuckled.
"Yeah but why?" His smile fell and he took a deep breath.
"Because.. She uh, she thinks I have feelings for someone else and I didn't want to argue with her. I was gonna break up with her soon anyways. I feel like she forced me into our relationship, so it feels good to be free" He laughed.
"Someone else?" I asked ignoring everything else he said.
"Yeah." He said as he looked at me.
I lifted my head and looked at him. His brown eyes were staring right back at me. "Was she right?"
"Yeah." He looked away from me.
"Who?" I asked without even thinking before I spoke.
He didn't say anything. I realized I probably wasn't going to get a reply.
"Goodnight Dylan." I said while squeezing his arm then letting go.
I could see out of the corner of my eye he was smiling. "Goodnight Aubrey" he whispered.
Before I fell asleep I felt Dylan's arm wrap around me. It was comforting. He was comforting.
* * *
I was woken up by the sound of smoke detectors beeping. I sat up quickly and saw a cloud of smoke in the kitchen and Dylan scraping some burnt substance off of a pan."What the hell!" I laughed.
"I tried to make breakfast" he pouted.
"By burning the house down?" I replied.
I opened some windows to get the smoke and the smell out and I turned the detector off.
"Thanks." He said while throwing the pan in the sink.
"As you can see I'm not a very good cook" he laughed.
"It's okay" I laughed with him.
Ding ding
I checked my phone and I didn't have any new messages. Must be his.
"Think that was your phone." I said.
He grabbed his phone and read a text and started smiling.
"What?" I asked.
I didn't mean to be nosy but I wanted to know why he was smiling.
"Ambers birthday bash is tonight. She told me to make sure I bring you." He laughed.
I started blushing, it was flattering. "So you free to night?" He asked.
I laughed, "yes".
"Okay good, make sure you bring a swim suit, she has a pool." He winked.
"Shirtless guys everywhere and girls in bikinis, sounds like a great party." I laughed.
"Doesn't it?" He replied in a funny voice.
"Well I should get going, I'll see you tonight." I said.
"Alright." "Oh your shirt!"
I was going to go change when he interrupted me, "Keep it." He smiled.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"Yeah I am." He replied.
He stood up and hugged me. That was the first time we hugged. It was nice. I walked out of the door and into my truck.
