"Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, let's get the hell out of here, Harp, before he wants to talk to me again." Yells Dylan as she comes bursting through the band room doors. I chuckle to myself at the scene of my panicked best friend pacing the floor in front on me. I go to pick up my softball gear, but apparently I wasn't going at the speed Dylan wanted me to, so she shouldered my backpack and grabbed my wrist to pull me into the women's locker room.
"Dude, where is the fire? We still have some time before we have to be at the field before the game today." I ask to try and settle her down.
"Blake freaking came up to me and TALKED to me. He talked to me. Like, what the hell was I supposed to do?" Her arms are flying everywhere, very dramatically, to get her point across.
"Um, how about respond to what he said instead of running away?" I say as I raise my eyebrows in question.
"Don't act like I just ran away! I started to talk to him, I stuttered through every word, but I talked to him. He said that he wanted to come to my game today and I told him to come and watch. He then asked me if we could get dinner after the game. I panicked and asked if you could come with us, and he said that was was perfect because he will bring his best friend so it could be a double date." Dylan said all of these words so fast, I'm sure I didn't hear her correctly.
"Um, what did you just say?
"We have a double date tonight after our game, and your date is a blind date..." She repeats to clarify with a scared expression on her face.
"Dylan Avery Nicholson, I am going to kill you! Why didn't you just go to dinner with Blake and leave me out of it?" I don't want to go on a date. I don't have time for anything like that. I've never even had my first kiss yet, let alone a boyfriend. Sure, I've had small crushes here or there, but nothing came out of them. But I know that Dylan wouldn't do this by herself and she has liked Blake for so long that I should be there for her. Ugh, fine, what's the worst that can happen?
"Blake gave me his number, so I'll text him and say that you're not interested..." Dylan says with a frown on her face and saddened expression.
I sigh, take a deep breath and say, "No wait...I'll do it. But I'm only doing this for you, and you better actually talk to Blake or I'm leaving."
"Thank you, thank you, thank you! And who knows, you might even like the guy!" Dylan yells excitedly, jumping up and down.
"Yeah, we will have to see! Now let's get changed into our uniforms and get to the field. I need to get my mind off of all of this with some batting practice before the game."

The stadium is filling up will family and friends of all of the players. We have about ten minutes before the first pitch. We are playing a conference game today so our opponents are from a high school nearby, causing for more spectators than usual. I got to take the batting practice that I needed to get my mind back in the game, and I'm ready to go. I see my dad and sisters in the stands ready to watch the game. Dylan walks up to me and we start talking about our previous games against our opponents, until Dylan looks up to the stands and stops in her tracks. I follow her gaze and see Blake sitting next to a boy that seems to be around the same age as him. He has short dark brown hair, athletic build, and light eyes.
"Dylan, do you recognize the guy with Blake?"
"...he actually came. I honestly didn't think he would. I thought I imagined the whole encounter." Dylan says, obviously ignoring my question.
"Coaches and captains!" The umpire yells to both teams to go over rules. I run to home plate and meet my coach there to go over ground rules. We shake hands with the other coach and captain and then go back to the dugout to retrieve my visor and glove on the bench. I run back out to my position to take a couple grounders thrown by the first baseman. Before I know it, the catcher throws it down to second and I catch the throw from Dylan. I jog up to Sutton on the mound and hand her the ball and give her a high five.
