Party Time

I walk up to my friends in the hallway and am immediately bombarded with questions about my dinner with Sutton. Dylan decided to open her big mouth to them this morning before the class bell rang and the group has been bugging me about details all morning.

"So how was it? You have to give us details!" Sophie screeches above every body else.

"It went well. We only had dinner and talked. It wasn't a date or anything. I just let her know that I was open to exploring my sexuality but I didn't want to hurt her in the process." I said honestly.

Dylan chimes in, "It was a date, Harp. You said she paid for dinner." A collection of "awws" came from my group of besties and I just rolled my eyes.

We headed to the cafeteria for lunch and on the way we saw Addy and Sutton talking by their lockers. Dylan, Sophie, and Jamie all looked at me then looked at Sutton and wiggled their eyebrows at the same time. I think we spend too much time together sometimes. I roll my eyes and Emma gives me a sympathetic smile. I wave at Sutton and Addy and just before we are out of hearing range, I hear Sutton call for me.

I stop and turn around to see her running up to me. I turn around to tell my friends to go on without me only to see them running away from me to get in the food line. I chuckle at their antics and turn back to Sutton and smile.

"Hey Harper. How's it going?" Sutton asks.

"I'm doing alright today. I got assigned a shit ton of homework and I'm not looking forward to completing it." As soon as I finish that sentence, I realize that Sutton is in all of my AP classes too. "Sorry I am complaining. You do all the same things I do, but you also have a job and take care of your brother. How do you handle it without going insane? I feel like I could combust at any second."

Sutton blushes and says, "No, it's okay! Sometimes I think I am insane, but somehow I find a way to do everything. Usually, there is a lack of sleep because of everything, but I think that it will pay out in the long run. I also find time to be a teenager as well. Which leads me to what I wanted to talk to you about."

Intrigued, I knit my eyebrows together, "What do you mean?"

"That rich junior kid named Alex is having a party this Friday and the whole school is invited. I was wondering if you would like to go with my friends and I? You could bring anybody you would like!"

I think over Sutton's proposition while she patiently waits for my response. I have never been to a party before. I've always been a good kid and I've never drank or smoked. But do I really want to go through high school without experiencing anything? I could drag Dylan with me because I'm sure Blake would be there. Before I think about it anymore, I answer Sutton. "Sure! I've never been to a party before so this will be interesting. I'll also probably bring Dylan."

Sutton's smile grows exponentially and her green eyes sparkle with glee. She jumps on me, squeals, and give me a tight hug. She's so cute, I think to myself. The same feeling I had the last time she hugged me was back and it was more prominent. The electricity I felt holding Sutton close to me was something I could not ignore. When she drew back from me, I missed the warmth of her body on mine. "I'll text you with details about where we are meeting up. It should be fun!" Sutton says as she heads back to Addy waiting at their lockers.

"I'm looking forward to it!" I yell as I head to the cafeteria. By this time, the line at the cafeteria is short but I only have a few minutes to eat. I grab my food and head to my typical table I share with my friends. I sit next to Dylan and, yet again, am bombarded with tons of questions. When my friends finally settle down, I answer their questions. "Sutton asked me to go to a party this Friday night, and Dylan, you are going with me. It's payback from the double-date!"
